Your opinion of England game

Do you think England were cheated on by the ref, Im Scottish but think they were hard done by
LadyJ · F Best Comment
Yes..the italians played dirty and it was obvious whos side the ref was on
romper69 · 51-55, M
@Elessar If it was six times wouldn't he have been booked. But of course..the ref must ave been on England's side. But then why wasn't Jorginho given a red for his tackle on Grealish? Maybe Jorginho himself simulating being hurt after helped.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@romper69 The ref simply allowed the game to continue and just didn't award you a penalty any time he dived in the box. They weren't booked but they didn't lead to a penalty either, and in one instance he was visibly annoyed by the thing. And a lot of other more or less minor fouls were simply ignored by the ref, for both teams, or do you realistically think that Chiesa faked a bleeding ankle out of the game?

@WintaTheAngle Filthy animals

WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
The attitude of the Italians was pretty unsporting. It’s as if they were prepared to do anything until caught.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@romper69 Yes, that's what I'm saying, contextually to the history of football pretty much every team has done what they accuse others of doing. I brought Sterling both as a counterexample for "it's Italians who dive and get away with it". Totally agreeing with you on the Ultras here being just as toxic (I knew they were politicized and afaik far-rightwing as well).

Contextually to yesterday's game, it wasn't us diving, and it was *some of* the English fans being more toxic. The ref has been permissive in regards to a lot of potential fouls, and to me it looked like both teams benefitted from it, not just Italy as the OP and some in this post are implying. Let alone the implications that we won only thanks to the ref.
LookingForTheSummer · 31-35, M
@romper69 I said some of them. I don't know how you jumped to the conclusion that I meant all of them.

Yes, there are hooligans in almost every country. I never said hooligans only belong to England. But why whenever there is a football competition somewhere, the host is worried mostly about English fans? Of course, as long as you think England becomes a target and the rest of the world is unfair towards you guys, there is no point in continuing this conversation.
romper69 · 51-55, M
@LookingForTheSummer I said "some, not all". I'm happy to cease this convo...you seem a bit out of your depth
adorbz · 26-30, F
pffffff

i don’t think so but even if we were we totally deserve it after the semi final 😅
MartinII · 70-79, M
The refereeing was absolutely fine, as it was throughout the tournament except in England’s semi-final.England deserved to lose because they were so negative. Italy were by far the better team, and no more cynical than any other team. The one England player I feel sorry for is Pickford, who was excellent throughout and in the shoot-out.
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
I saw both teams flopping on every bump. I saw one England player grab the opposite ankle he was kicked on. I saw Italians getting yellow carded.
And winning a championship on penalty kicks just seems so wrong. Play an extra half and whoever is winning at the end is the winner... Or play sudden death overtime.
Cierzo · M
Blame it on Southgate. England played really well the first thirty minutes or so, but then they just thought of defending. Substitutions were atrocious, and better not talk about the decision on who should shoot the last penalties.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Cierzo Agreed. I would add - substitutions were not so much atrocious as non-existent. All that unused attacking talent on the bench. And Southgate’s failure to make Sterling take a panalty was ... criminal? cowardly?
BalmyNites · F
Yes absolutely, the Italians played a dirty game - more like a wrestling match 😊
I don't think they were cheated. There was a hairs breadth between the two teams and I think it would have been tough for whichever side had gone out.

Italy played some great football, congratulations, they deserve to celebrate.

England played an entertaining tournament, the don't deserve to have lost.

My boys did me proud
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@MartinII I don't think for a second, Southgate wanted to play as deep as we did in the second half, we just got forced back. If he had wanted to park the bus, why would he have brought on Saka for Trippier? It didn't work because Saka had a bad game. He should have brought Grealish on earlier and left Saka on the bench but whatever. Its fine margins and Southgate got most things in the tournament right.
@MartinII I'm sorry you were not entertained by the matches. I enjoyed every single one of them
MartinII · 70-79, M
@InOtterWords Perhaps I’m becoming difficult to please in my old age. I enjoyed Czech Republic v Netherlands most. Glad you enjoyed them all.
LadyJ · F
Thanks for BC 🍻🍻🍻
OldBrit · 61-69, M
I don't think so - he let a lot go that I thought would be a foul but then I'm no ref so what do I know. I would say the Italian's did push the boundaries more - we only had one English booking I lost count of their yellow cards. But in football that's just a card, it isn't like in rugby where you get sin binned and put your team at a disadvantage so you could argue that was part of their strength to push the boundaries without any red cards.

Again I'm no expert but on balance from mid first half onwards Italy were the stronger team with more possession and more shots on target etc. It's a shame that we lost but I don't think we can claim we were cheated from it it my opinion
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
There were a few shitty things but it's an exaggeration to say they played a dirty game. The Italians were just a little bit better than us.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Burnley123 A great deal better in attacking intent and composure under pressure.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@MartinII We did well in the first half but yeah. I think a big flaw in our team is the lack of an outright deep-playmaker. Like Jorghinho for them.
I don’t think so. England tried hard and should be commended for the effort but Italy deserve the cup.

There’s still World Cup so…
Northwest · M
I don't think anyone cheated, and the ref, I believe, was fair and accurate. Italy played better. Good luck next time.
LookingForTheSummer · 31-35, M
I hope you are joking. Lol
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@GovanDUNNY Maybe not. I'm sorry. It's just the other Scottish guy I know definitely would do this kind of thing as a troll post.

Though he is a Celtic fan.
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
@Burnley123 I couldn't come up with something as laughable as suggesting they were cheated in that game but cheers dickhead
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@thatscottishguy Pfffffff. 🤷
Tres13 · 51-55, M
the English cannae play football.Congrats Italia
helensusanswift · 26-30, F
Not sure how you think that. The Italians were a bunch of divers though - but I think England's penalty against Denmark was the result of a dive as well, so what goes around, comes around.
helensusanswift · 26-30, F
@GovanDUNNY Sterling dived. Look at the replays.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@helensusanswift @GovanDUNNY I’m not sure whether he died (sorry, dived!) or fell over, but it certainly wasn’t a penalty.
helensusanswift · 26-30, F
@MartinII Agree with that. Look at the big grin on his face as he threw himself to the ground. Denmark should have won that game.
helenS · 36-40, F
