Do You Talk To Strangers In Checkout Lines At Stores?

I had a conversation with an elderly man yesterday at Walmart. He had a little dog on a leash and after I looked down at her he says “Don’t worry, she won’t bite.” Talked to him for a few minutes until it was my turn to get my groceries checked. He thanked me for having a friendly conversation. People should do this more

Yes, I love that! I will talk to anyone, anywhere, and most people where I live are nice. If I can't reach something, someone will come and offer to get it. Often, someone will offer to help me put my groceries in the car. Small gestures like that make my day. ☺️

I agree and I do this often in bus queues. You never know if that person is lonely and needs someone to talk to. No matter what their age is.
@RubiesandButterflies I talk to anyone i dont care yet making friends is so hard

Lady wouldn't accept my coupon so I turned to the guy behind me to show him the expiration date and he's like I don't want no part of this sh!t.

Yes. I had an amazing conversation with a gentleman in line ahead of me at the grocery store, AND with the grocery clerk who was checking us out.

Talk about coincidences...both the gentleman ahead of me, and I, were former workers at homeless shelters...different ones in our area. And the grocery clerk had been homeless, and was working five part time jobs to be able to afford the cost of the motel where she was living with an indigent room mate. It was VERY weird because I had just recommended that motel...and she told me that is where she was living.

Yes. Maybe not so much at the mega-walmart type stores. Their self-checkout setup usually translates into only big shoppers using the standard old checkout lanes, where there are usually no line.

I talk to people anywhere, when I actually get out. I can be a real chatterbox when I’m in the mood. I’m usually a friendly person, so it depends on how much mental energy I have.

Most people do which goes to prove that most of the people are nice ❤️

Our culture forbids that.

I wish I could be a natural conversationalist... but I'm just not. I'd rather keep to myself.

I don't have a problem with people, the reason is me

Yes, sometimes. It isn't rare that something will spark a brief, pleasant conversation. It's always a good feeling, when that happens.
I'm more likely to interact with the dog.😆

@UnderLockDown The little dog was the conversation starter. He had her dressed in a warm little sweater vest.

Yes
Many a time and I would also say hello to the person on the till

Someone said that to me not long ago as well. Everyone is feeling the weight of the lack of civility, I think. If we all just shut off the tv and internet for a couple weeks, I think we’d be amazed at how nice life got.

People are way too busy in their own life / thoughts etc and hardly smile , forget the conversations.

So no.

Most avoid me anyway because of my skin colour !

Sad , but that’s reality for you.

I had two conversations in the grocery store today, but they weren't in the checkout line.

I have many times. If they want to talk, I have no problem talking to anyone.

I do if they look friendly.

Elderly people tend to talk to me about what they’re gonna have for their suppa, I don’t mind

They’re probably lonely bless ‘em ♥️
