Where do you shop for groceries?

For me we use Walmart or Giant. As of late I keep reading news articles about Walmart making self checkout lanes 15 items or less. The Walmart I used to work at removed the majority of registers and relies on self checkout.

On the grocery side of the store are at least 15 self checkouts designed for handling big amounts of items.

I don't think these articles are for every store tho either, just the ones with theft problems. But the people writing these stories need to be a lot clearer in their writings, because they're making it sound as if changes to self checkout affects every single store and it doesn't.

They need to ban self check outs or pay the customers 15 bucks an hour to do employees job
HumanEarth · 56-60, F
I hate them things. I rather see people working and not have a store exploiting free labor from their customers
@HumanEarth If you spend an hour scanning and packing your groceries... I wouldn't want to be paying your bill...

Just think the free ride that store is getting. They get rid of employees because of them and thats less jobs for a human

I think they are just going through busy work until someone goes serious automation via internet, more like fulfillment warehouses than human pickers at a supermarket, where orders are filled automatically as bins worm through collection troughs.

I was at our local Walmart just yesterday to pick up meds and noticed how the store was going through a major reorganization, but with no clue yet about where all the effort was heading. Noticed also a change in merchandise, like more variety in the frozen foods. A huge, upscale Whole Foods opened just across the street, and maybe Walmart at that store will be chasing high end customers, or maybe experimenting with different check out arrangements. We'll see.

Local farmers market. Eggs, milk and chicken from farm. I catch my own salmon. Rice and beans from farmers too. I grow my veggies.
DareToSayIT · 31-35, M
@twiigss I shop at local stores, but I catch my own fish and grow my vegetables in the farm as a hobby.
@DareToSayIT that's cool. Yeah we've a bunch of those farmers markets here too, mostly Amish or Mennonite.

@twiigss I was calculating, I save a lot of money that way and also get fresh produce. I go to supermarkets only when don’t find something in farmers market which is very rare. I do it mostly during thanksgiving.

I shop mostly at Winco and Aldi but also get some things at Walmart which they don’t have. Also go to Braums for dairy products and a local chain store called Crest for ground beef and sometimes produce or canned and cleaning items.

Big shop at Tesco, we use click and collect. Top up shops the little co-op up the road (so sad I don't get my divi any more) then local butchers and fishmongers as menus dictate.
a local supermarket chain, have a butcher shop, seafood market and Italian market in town

Coles, Drakes, Woolworths, Big W and Aldi.. Not all in the one go of course, well except for Big W and Woolworths.
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
Local farmers, Aldi, and Costco mostly. The latter two are unfortunately almost 2 hours away lol.
Winco and smiths. Winco doesn’t have everything or else I’d exclusively shop there.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
I shop at the grocery store or the farmers market or buy direct from the farmer.

Food Lion, Aldi, Dollar General

I despise wal-mart...
@wildbill83 I worked there for 5 years, definitely not happy with my time there. I will go there for a couple of things that Dollar General doesn't have. Ever since they built a DG 3 minutes drive time from my house, I go there since wally world is 30 minutes one way from my house.

Kroger and HEB
Musicman · 61-69, M
@exexec The first time I ever went to an HEB was when we were in Waco.
exexec · 61-69, C
@Musicman We like HEB for a few things, but I do most of my grocery shopping at the Kroger superstore. The HEB superstore is not near us, and I don't like to go to the smaller one nearby.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@exexec The one in Waco was super big. They carried everything.
