Where do you shop for groceries?

For me we use Walmart or Giant. As of late I keep reading news articles about Walmart making self checkout lanes 15 items or less. The Walmart I used to work at removed the majority of registers and relies on self checkout.

On the grocery side of the store are at least 15 self checkouts designed for handling big amounts of items.

I don't think these articles are for every store tho either, just the ones with theft problems. But the people writing these stories need to be a lot clearer in their writings, because they're making it sound as if changes to self checkout affects every single store and it doesn't.

I think they are just going through busy work until someone goes serious automation via internet, more like fulfillment warehouses than human pickers at a supermarket, where orders are filled automatically as bins worm through collection troughs.

I was at our local Walmart just yesterday to pick up meds and noticed how the store was going through a major reorganization, but with no clue yet about where all the effort was heading. Noticed also a change in merchandise, like more variety in the frozen foods. A huge, upscale Whole Foods opened just across the street, and maybe Walmart at that store will be chasing high end customers, or maybe experimenting with different check out arrangements. We'll see.
