Hurricane Carla 1961 In 1961, Hurricane Carla hit Galveston. A Houston reporter named Dan Rather covered the hurricane from this building and the first use of radar was here. CBS noticed Dan Rather and that’s how he got on CBS national tv (1)
Galveston bagel shop menu This is a fairly new place but good and affordable. It was right at $30 for my brother & I Saturday which is reasonable (1)
Sonny’s place menu This is the place that looked run down from the outside’s menu. It’s really good food and actually has a bullet hole in the bar from a 1971 gunfight/robbery attempt (1)
Galveston deli This is a deli we tried last week in downtown Galveston. I liked the food and it’s very reasonably priced (1)
Galveston restaurant review This place may not look like much from the outside but the food is amazing. It’s basically things like burgers, sandwiches, chicken and even pasta and muffulettas for anyone who likes those (1)
Galveston ice cream/fudge Lakings in downtown Galveston has great fudge. My favorite is orange cream. They also have really good ice cream made on the island. A shake there is $8 but definitely worth the price (1)
Americas Kitchen Galveston A hidden gem in Galveston. They’re only open for breakfast & lunch but the food is great and generous portions. It’s located by the hospitals (1)
Roadside restaurant part 2 I was asked to show food photos from Charlie’s. This isn’t my photo but this is their chicken fried steak which is very popular in Texas (1)
Galveston duck boat This is on Offatts Bayou. The coast guard won’t let the boat go in the gulf for safety reasons. Adult tickets for this are $30 which is reasonable and worth it (1)
Roadside restaurant This is a comfort food restaurant on US 59 in Texas called Lone Star Charlie’s. If you’re traveling between Livingston & Houston I recommend you try it. It’s comfort food with generous portions (1)
Galveston fried seafood At Millers Seawall grill in Galveston. This fish & shrimp combo is $22 which is reasonable (1)

Galveston tree sculptures After Hurricane Ike in 08, most of the oak trees on the island were damaged. So the residents made sculptures like the Tin Man and Toto. If you go to Galveston you can drive around looking for them. (1)
Thursday night dinner This place in Marshall Tx has burgers, fish and cajun specials but most of the food is mild (1)
Galveston Mexican food This is from the Original Mexican cafe in Galveston which has been open for over a century. I get this Which is enchiladas & soft tacos. It’s a good place for dinner. It’s built inside an old house from the early 1900s as well (1)

Dirt track racing night A track along the Texas/Louisiana border. On average admission is $15-20. I enjoy this time of year because it’s not too hot. For those who haven’t been give it a try. There’s probably a track within an hour from your town (1)
