Idk why anebody would cave crawl tbh but this guy fell into a tiiiiny crevice that rescuers couldnt get into so he was stuck like this for days waiting to die anddd he did i added a diagram so you can see why
Given how experienced the family were - I'm surprised that they continued to the stage where he got stuck, to be fair.
I mean, we're not just talking about some guys who just got off the sofa and decided to go caving one Thanksgiving... they were experienced enough to know what they were doing.
Ever since I saw that story on YouTube, I try to avoid it now because I dream about him being alone down there in that sealed cave.
This was a tragedy. They actually came close to rescuing him, but he ended up being wedged in deeper, and a rescuer nearly perished as well. Read the entire story. It is truly sad. They couldn't even retrieve his body and the shaft was sealed. He did get to speak with his wife before he died.
I went on a hike in the Blue Mountains and walked through caves. It was eerie and felt like being in another world. There was little danger and I can remember how it felt still. I cannot imagine spelunking.
@TheSirfurryanimalWales So do I. But my wife and I went on one guided tour, where the very beginning of the descent was through a very narrow passage. Our tour guide told us that once, a rather heavy visitor actually got wedged in and couldn't move.
The only way for help to arrive was for everyone behind that person to turn around and go back to the visitor's center, and then this tourist and everyone in front waited until a rescue team came down and managed to pry the person out.
There is a cave only 15 minutes from my home that's pretty popular with experienced spelunkers, and you can hire some to take you down there. There's a part of this cave that is known as 'the mail slot'. Yeah. You have to squeeze through this on your stomach in order to make it to the big cavern that's the goal of this trek underground. I'm not a huge guy, I'm in shape, but I'm not taking that trip.
Yes I know! Imagine having millions of tonnes of rock directly over you, just waiting to fall. I hate it. But I love reading and seeing videos about cave exploration. Sort of a morbid curiosity I guess
There was a person I worked with for a brief time who is a part of a group who does cave explorations and things like that. I dunno, I mean, caves are cool and all, but small and tight spaces can become dangerous quickly, if you aren't careful and don't have the experience and skills to navigate those types of spaces.
