Sometimes I do, we have a nicer house now though.
StarsMISaligned · 51-55, F
@Strongtea that's awesome 🙂
It's just down the road from me... but, even that is too far for me to walk now.
Last time I went, I was surprised to see that they had built fencing around the parking area - so you can't drive onto the pedestrian areas anymore... that was useful when you were moving in or out.
The park is long gone now, too... and the path for walking down to the canal. It's still there, technically, just overgrown now. The nature area - and the fly tipped waste was still there, though.

I'm still at the same place and at this point I hate being reminded of the past. I just feel stuck and conserved like a museum artifact in a museum where hardly anything changed. Actually this is even hard to explain to people because I doubt many experienced something similar. As for the city where I live, I don't consciously think of how streets and various places looked before when I walk around them, it's mostly after having a dream where they show the way they used to be.
Perhaps only one place crosses my mind every time I visit it and it's the park in my birth town that was reduced and cultivated. Before, it was semi-wild, with tree trunks lying all around, narrow trails between tall vegetation, a bit like in the woods. Now there are houses where it was reduced and the park itself has wide sidewalks and mowed lawns.

sometimes....or i'll sometimes go on google maps and type in my old address from a different province i used to live in...that is interesting because i'll look at how big a tree is in the front yard that my mother planted over 40 years ago
StarsMISaligned · 51-55, F
@beermeplease so crazy to see!!!
rinkydinkydoink · M
A couple of miles away from where I live now we had a treed park, an ice rink and a public swimming pool - but, best of all, a variety store stocked with black balls, comic books, pop, chocolate bars, etc. where I splurged my 35 cents allowance every Saturday morning :)
Sadly, the home I was raised in (the house my dad and his buddy Bill built) was torn down a few yrs ago.

@rinkydinkydoink great place to grow up! Good memories
Gingerbreadspice · F
Yes. Half a mile away. A well known English pop band members great uncle bought it afterwards. Its my second childhood home. My first childhood home is hundreds of miles away.
StarsMISaligned · 51-55, F

Teslin · M
I don't live in the same town, but my mom still lives in the same house I grew up in. So yes, I do go back often.
StarsMISaligned · 51-55, F
@Teslin awwwww so great!!
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Once in a great while, if I happen to be on that side of town. But it seems funny to me that I lived about 15 years in that childhood home and now have been living over 45 years in this current house on the other side of town.
MrAverage1965 · 61-69, M
My mother in law only lives about 500 metres away from the house I grew up in so occasionally I take a drive by.
RedBaron · M
It’s about 3 miles from me here in Brooklyn. My brother and I just sold the building for $8 million. That’s much sweeter than any memories of growing up there.
StarsMISaligned · 51-55, F
@RedBaron sweet, for sure!!
GerOttman · 61-69, M
i live near enough i can drive by the old house once in a while. My first Christmas tree is planted on the side of the garage. it's at least 60 feet tall!
StarsMISaligned · 51-55, F
@GerOttman so cool!!
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M
No because my mother still lives there and I'm done with that part of my life and her
Pretzel · 70-79, M
well I've been in the same town 50 years - hardly ever visit any of the places I've lived.
StarsMISaligned · 51-55, F
@Pretzel you should!!!
Nebula · 41-45, F
I moved away but when I go back to visit, it's almost unrecognizable, the area 😢

Occasionally. It's uncomfortable because it doesn't look like it did when I was a kid.
HiYou12 · 51-55, M
I have driven past it over the years, neighborhood has gone to shit and the upkeep is meh. I would love to knock on the door and see if they would let me take a look inside. That would be nice
StarsMISaligned · 51-55, F
