Have you ever unwrapped, then rewrapped a gift that was addressed to you?

🤔 What was it?
Piper · 61-69, F
Not exactly , but I did give something as a gift that someone else had given me. It was something I liked a lot, that a close friend had given me. It had been in the box in a closet for years, and it was a very pretty ceramic candle burner.
I told the the person I gave it to that it had been a gift from a friend, and how precious it was because he had given it to me. I like to think my deceased friend would understand and be okay with me giving it to someone else, who would use it.

@Piper I’m sorry for your loss! I hope that the person you gave it to treasures that precious gift! It’s so kind of you to pass along something like that, I have a hard time letting go of sentimental things.
Piper · 61-69, F
@WanderingThrough It was a very nice gift, and my friend knew how much I appreciated that he bought it for me. I have a hard time letting go of things connected to someone I loved, too, as evidenced by home being full of them.
In this case, it was a brand new 'old' working thing, though, that I had never used. Not because I didn't like it, but because I had something similar that I rarely use. It was not an easy decision, for me to part with that gift.

@Piper It’s lovely that you’re so sentimental and that you are able to share things that mean a lot to you with others. I hope that it’s being used and appreciated in its new home.

Nope, but if I did not like or want the gift, it went to good will or the food bank. Yeah, send me a fruit cake will ya.
deepblacknothingness · 56-60, M
Yes, I was given a tea set I didn't really care for. It was sitting in storage for years and gave it away to someone else for their birthday present. This person wasn't present when I had originally received this gift and didn't know it was in my possession for a long time.
WanderingThrough · 31-35, F
@deepblacknothingness Brilliant! As long as you always make sure to keep track of who gave you a gift, so you don’t accidentally regift it to them. 😂 I recently heard a story from a friend about someone who did that accidentally, but I can’t recall the details.
deepblacknothingness · 56-60, M
@WanderingThrough That's the important part make sure you remember who gave what to who and who was present. You might get lucky if enough years have passed and they have forgotten with time.
Yes, when I was a child, I peeked at my Christmas present. I seriously regretted that. It ruined Christmas. Never did that again. I don't remember what the present was, but for sure it wasn't what I wished for. I think that year my parent's budget was a bit tight.
WanderingThrough · 31-35, F
@TheButterflyMind I can see how that would make Christmas less fun. Hopefully you still ended up enjoying it, whatever it was.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
If i unwrapped it i wouldnt re wrap it
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@WanderingThrough i always hate the decision of getting it though, lol
WanderingThrough · 31-35, F
@Virgo79 I usually do as well, it can be hard sometimes but this past year…it just went so well! First time I was ever that sure about what I purchased.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@WanderingThrough lucky you!
I don't think im ever sure
InvisibleGirl · 18-21, F
I peeked at presents one Christmas when I was little. But it ruined Christmas, so it only happened the one time.
WanderingThrough · 31-35, F
@InvisibleGirl Somehow I’m not shocked that you’d do that.
Every single gift I’ve given on SW has been one I’ve re-gifted.

Twice! 👻

So you are looking for validation?
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@WanderingThrough Well... um... uh... yeah... I suppose. I mean, yeah.
WanderingThrough · 31-35, F

thats a very specific problem
WanderingThrough · 31-35, F
@MartinTheFirst It happens more often than you might think! Between children who prematurely open gifts and people regifting things. 🤷🏻‍♀️
