Just got my driver's license. Best car to get?

Kia cars
Toyato cars
Honda cars
Nissan cars
Ford cars
Dodge cars?
CONGRATULATIONS!! Toyota! Stay away from dealers or find out which have a good reputation for fair deals. Take it to a garage and have it checked out FOR SURE before you buy it. It may seem like a real pain to fool with, but in the end the few extra dollars you have to spend to do that will be well worth it! You'll be so glad you did. They can tell you whether it's worth the money or not. Also check and see if it's been in a flood. They have to divulge that information. And make sure there's no liens on the title, that is a clear title. And don't pay them for title and registration!! You can do that yourself for a LOT less money. And get your OWN car insurance. Make sure the car has a great warranty. Shoot for mileage around 70,000 on a used car. It can be done. Change the oil faithfully, every 3000 miles, and have the tires rotated I think its every 60,000 miles. Very important, so they don't get too worn in one spot.
1st car?

a heap of crap so you can bang it up no worries .

get some practice before you spend serious cash

One that costs $5000 or Less, doesn't blow smoke, doesn't sound weird, doesn't drive funny, doesn't have much over 100,000 Miles if possible. Small dents, scratches okay.
GET CHEAPEST Required Insurance Coverage and DO NOT WRECK IT!

$5000 for 36 months @ 4.5% = 145/Month

Pay that off faster if possible, build a better Credit Rating, NEVER MISS A PAYMENT!
@Valerian my first car was $500 from the auto wreckers 😁

Since you are just starting out there is a good chance you will make mistakes (We all do) So get the kind of car you are not going to beat yourself up over if you make a couple of mistakes that show in it.😷
Adstar · 56-60, M
Buy a cheap second hand car and make all your driving mistakes in that car.. There are a lot of decent car brands.. I had a good second hand Mazda 626 that went well for years... Managed to avoid any serious accidents in it, I had two close calls.. And i made one or two reversing mistakes that cause some paint scrapes and one dent in the rear bumber bar..

Maybe after 5 or 6 years driving in your second hand car then you can go out and buy a New car if you like.. 🙂

best choice,, for utility and reliability
toyota honda and nissan are a great pick any under 150 000 miles, run forever
often affordable more so than the volvo/volkswage and such tho also good

I hate to say it but most American cars are inferior.
like 100,000 miles worth
YES I KNW SOME OF YOU GUYS HAD GOOD AMERICAN CARS
but the average out to be not as worthy
Slade · 56-60, M
Toyotas. They stay out of the shop. That soon becomes priority #1
Ozuye502 · 36-40, M
An older Toyota, Honda or Volvo will be a better start as they are reliable with proper maintenance.
but good luck finding any vehicle at this point my new car just got pushed back for the 2nd time so now it’s 8 months out and the used market is so over priced.
Stay away from Dodge/Fiat just got a nightmare worked out with my Dodge Dart.

An older, well serviced Toyota. Have it checked out. Try with a private party first. Used cars have jumped in price. Be careful.
mercedes they last the longest. here is mine got two for 4k.

and if not toyota is a good car or volvo
Valerian · 100+, M
@markansas problem in the USA, parts are Expensive for those!
SW-User
But as one gentleman said get some cheap car as your first one. It would be good.
Oster1 · M
Forget looks, for now. You just want dependable transportation.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
As a personal choice, I buy American cars. Your choice may depend on climate, budget, and usage among other things. You want a bigger SUV or something like a beer can with wheels? I just bought a Sonic, motorcycles have bigger engines! Great gas mileage and easy to park for short distance commuting. If I wanted to travel extensively I'd go with a larger sort of car.

@Slade it fit my budget, and I never heard that. I worked at the car lot where I got it
Slade · 56-60, M
@cherokeepatti Maybe it's more recent, but I've heard it all over.

One thing, I've NEVER seen more Sanders bumper stickers on anything. All over the hatch, to pull off the paint
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Slade No one ever mentioned such a thing, I used it for basic transportation and it was good driving in the winter.
Havesomefun2 · 56-60, M
Find the cheap car to insurance then work up
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
Stay away from anything used that has a turbo. (It can take out your engine when it fails)

Kia’s and Hyundai’s are great if you are buying new…but I would stay away from used ones.

Not sure if your climate calls for all wheel drive but its worth it if you drive in slippery winters
SW-User
None they all suck
SW-User
@SW-User wrong.

See who has the best bang for the buck. Honda and Toyota tend to last with routine maintenance. Your kiddos may be driving it as a handme down when they get their licenses.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
What is your deciding factor? Inexpensive - Kia.
Longevity reliability- Toyota
Performance - Honda
Service and parts - Ford
The others are not worth looking at.
spjennifer · 56-60, T
Buy a used Toyota Corolla, good on gas and will last you many years if you maintain it properly, get it inspected first but they are totally reliable cars.
Adamski24 · 41-45, M
Congratulations on getting your license.

Go for German or Japanese they are built to last for years
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
I had a Nissan car it was a good car it was really cheap on gas and that was nice.
trackboy · 22-25, M
Toyota is the most reliable. lookup the reliability ratings in consumer reports. 🍝
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Hondas and Toyotas are good, I think Hondas have the highest resale value.
TurtlePink · 22-25, F
Why is nobody saying Subaru 😢 we need more people in our club 😔
SW-User
Love both my Dodge Ram truck and Subaru WRX
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
Congrats!
I’m partial to Toyotas
Havesomefun2 · 56-60, M
Cheap toyato parts are cheap
Hem1ock · 26-30, M
Toyota is generally a solid choice.
