What book(s) are you currently reading?

The last couple of days, I've been rereading The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body, in the Healing of Trauma by Van Der Kolk, M.D.. I'd recommend it to anyone dealing with, and finding it difficult to navigate, past trauma and heartache.

I've also recently begin working through a grief journal - not one specifically geared toward death - but to any event that has left you grieving. It is soothing, and I hope productive, too.

In the real world, I keep the hurt and pain quiet and closed within, so these books are a kindness that I do for myself.

I’m reading Amy, My Daughter by Mitch Winehouse

I just finished two good books I’m going to recommend :

The Match by Sarah Adams

Funny Story by Emily Henry
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Jenny1234 Nice. A friend of mine read the Winehouse story. She recommended it to me as well.
Bruja · F
My Cousin Rachel by Daphne du Maurier
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Bruja I believe I have seen the movie. I didn't know there was a book which would have most likely been better.
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
@Bruja Great book!
My moms copy of Sacajawea by Anna Lee Waldo.

Probably need to stop reading it. About to fall apart.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Bexsy Those well worn, well loved books, are always the best.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
The Thorn Birds
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@CrazyMusicLover I've always loved that one. Enjoy.
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
About to read Atonement, and I also have a copy of Mortality by Christopher Hitchens.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Harmonium1923 I've not heard of either of those. Are they worth reading?
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
@LadyBronte Ask me in two weeks LOL
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Harmonium1923 Lol. I will if I don't forget. 😉
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
None, currently.

But four years ago, I read novel adaptations of films like Batman, Back To The Future, and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
Nimbus · M
"Liverpool FC and winning the Premiership"
It's a very short book.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Nimbus 😄😄
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
I definitely want to read The Body Keeps the Score.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Jeephikelove That looks interesting. Thanks for the suggestion.
That’s great, hope you find them helpful.

I’m on more of a novel kick lately. Love this one a lot, about a woman who served as a nurse in Vietnam.

And this by one of my favorite novelists, about a family in crisis.

LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@OlderSometimesWiser I saw Hannah's The Women recommended on another site. I need to read it.

Jodi Picoult is always a fine read. Thanks.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@OlderSometimesWiser I liked Mad Honey
@LadyBronte The Women was very special to me for some reason. Stayed with me long after I finished it.

@Jenny1234 I love most of Picoult’s stuff. Only thing with Mad Honey was that I got somewhat bored with the beekeeping minutiae and found myself skipping over it.
Coldplay · 61-69, M
What a great way to take care of YOU!
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Coldplay I am working on it. Thanks.

The Overstory
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@fun4us2b I'm not familiar with that one.

I liked North Woods more:

LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@fun4us2b Thanks for the links!
Cheesecake · 61-69, M
The Running Grave by Robert Galbraith. One of the Cormoran Strike series. Has taken me ages, for various reasons 🙄
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Cheesecake I looked up the series. I was unaware J.K. Rowling ever published under a pseudonym. Interesting. I'm sure I'll read at least one. Any recommendation which should be first? Thanks.
Cheesecake · 61-69, M
@LadyBronte you really need to read them chronologically. The Cuckoo's Calling is the first. They're not what you'd call highbrow but entertaining enough. A couple have been serialised on tv too. Reasonable to watch 🙂
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Cheesecake Thanks!
DrWatson · 70-79, M
Cincinnatus: George Washington and the Enlightenment by Garry Wills
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@DrWatson is it good?
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@LadyBronte Yes, I am enjoying it. It is about how Enlightenment thought affected the kinds of mythologies and images that developed about Washington, and how it influenced Washington himself.

For example, the book makes a convincing case that the story of the cherry tree was written in order to praise Washington's father's liberal parenting style, not George's truthfulness. (In keeping with what philosophers were writing at the time regarding the education of children.) It was not until the story made its way into reading primers in schools in the 1800's that it got transformed into a moral tale about not telling lies.

I've read other books by Willis. He draws on history, literature, art, and culture, to delve into ideas in a multifaceted way. Like his other books, I will finish this one only partially retaining everything he has to say!
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@DrWatson Interesting.
darkmere1983 · 46-50, M
my king james bible. but i have quite a lot of books i could read, mostly horror fiction.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@darkmere1983 I grew up reading the King James version as well, but college required The New Life Application Bible, which is what I use now. I have that with a King James reference section in the back. I would be hard pressed to give it up with all the notetations I've handwritten in through the years.

I do enjoy a good sci-fi or horror story that is sans demonic or slasher content. Very few can write a good one, in my opinion. I usually lean to King's or Koontz's work for that.
Starchild1983 · 41-45, F
I just started it..

LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Starchild1983 Let me know how it is! It sounds good.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@DunningKruger I see it gets a nod from Stephen King - I'll have to take a look. Thanks.
You'd like Gabor Maté. Hes worth llstening to.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@OogieBoogie I don't know who that is. I'll look him up. Thanks.
@LadyBronte oh he's great. Hes very chill.
But he does talks and is a guest on podcasts, (with other presenters), about trauma, and how it lives in your body, and how it presents. ... and the long-term affects on our personalities and health.

He was one of the initial researchers about it.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@OogieBoogie Thanks!
