When I got my first house I used to walk in at first and think, this place looks like a grown-ups house! (I'm not kidding.)

I'm curious, what makes you say that? Is your neighbor a know it all, or does it seem that older folks are mental giants?

Important point you make here. Long story short. At 13 some African tribes take the boy into the jungle for a couple of weeks and teach him how to hunt down game and bring it back to the clan. He is expected to take a wife, provide for her and start their family. He is then considered to be a man.
In many contemporary Western cultures today young men are still in a psychological and emotional frame of mind resembling a juvenile - clear into their late 30s and beyond. The culture promotes this. I know of someone in his 50s who is still party, party, party, hasn't saved a dime and still expecting his mother to award him her house upon her passing. Sad state of affairs.
