How do you see credit cards?

I have no idea why banks are so eager to sell you their credit cards.

Their selling points are : -

Rebates.
Points.
Savings.
Able to spend over your limit.

I still fear the usage of credit card. After hearing all the horror stories.

the trouble with many people is that they treat a credit card like a gift card...🤑
MatthewTheHamster · 31-35, M
@wildbill83 It is a gift card alrite. Until the bank decided to send you <3 letter.

credit cards allow you to rent spent money. Such a deal!!
They're Faustian.

Banks want you to use their credit cards because they make money off the use of their cards -- every time you use a credit card the issuing bank gets a small percentage of the amount you pay.

If you trust yourself and are a responsible adult, you should be able to handle having a credit card. I only use my American Express card which has an annual fee of $100, no interest and I pay the balance in full each month. And I do accrue points which I use to buy other things.

@MatthewTheHamster It’s only a hundred bucks. I easily make that back in points and then some with AmEx special offers like money off on travel, dining and merchandise. And its a big hassle not having a credit card when you want to do things like check into a hotel or rent a car. Again, if you’re a responsible adult, it’s a real convenience and not the evil piece of plastic people claim.

@LyricalOne Alrite. You have your point. But still currently i find it evil.

@MatthewTheHamster Maybe you don’t trust your ability to handle having a credit card. Which is a valid- and responsible reason not to get one. Because there’s no doubt that if you can’t use the card responsibly, it can cause big problems. A whole bunch of people are in that position. But again, it’s not the card, it’s the person.

We made over $13K in cashback rewards plus price protections last year. That was between three credit cards. They've never made a cent off us in interest. I also meticulously track our finances and make credit card payments twice a week. I realize there's a lot of people in this world that can't responsibly use a credit card ... and if you're one of them, you're making a wise decision to stear clear.

I can be happy with spending with only that much that I presently have.
