To be fair, the trains part may have to do with the nation's low population density.

@Tminus6453 Remember when we used to say love it or leave it.

Because military contracts are more important than civil infrastructure contracts.

Because the powers that were liked to divert our tax money and use it to build deep underground military sites (DUMS) that serve nefarious purposes. They are extremely expensive to build and operate. We could have had a superior infrastructure if not for that.

@cherokeepatti the missile silos back in the sixties were about a billion bucks each. You can pick up a closed one for about $40k now.

@Tastyfrzz Not talking missile silos, much deeper and bigger and much more expensive. Underground bases.

We love our cars. Many of us only need our cars, only a small percentage of the time, but have to use them, to get commute to work.
High speed trains, can significantly reduce stress on airports, and roads, and rail links, can significantly reduce stress on local roads and significantly improve commute time.
We're not making real investments in high speed trains and rail links. I live in a metropolitan area, where commutes, eat up 20% of our lives. Between Amazon, Microsoft, Costco, and the entire tech industry, throw a couple of lakes into the mix, and you've got a situation that could have been avoided, had rail links been implemented decades ago.
They're doing a rail link now, but it's too little, too late.
I would love for us to have a national healthcare system, and free education, but the majority of our citizens, think it's communism.

Reagonomics. We stopped investing in our nation in the name of tax cuts for "job creators".

I'm for the first two but Fuck high speed trains. They just transport yuppie assholes from the big cities faster to the still decent places.
