My schools were mostly very good. I hated Latin along with most of the rest of the class. We all thought we hated our Latin teacher Mr B. too. But when he left there were tears all round.
My senior high school physics teacher was very strict but also very fair. He had previously, and relatively recently, been an industrial chemist in the oil industry so while he was a good teacher his specific knowledge of some bits of modern physics was rusty and in some cases absent. I delighted in reading ahead and catching him out by pointing out that textbooks sometimes over simplified things or by asking him about the implications of this or that theory. I could never catch him out twice on the same topic though, I think he boned up on everything I tested him on straight away.
