Does age matter in love

Does age really matter in love ? The one is in 50 and I am in 30
in10RjFox · M
If it matters it's not love.
Not as long as we’re talking legal adults.
@666Maggotz Exactly!

Yes. Love is an abstract concept humans often falsely attatch solely to romantic feelings but that's not love, it's infatuation. When it comes to attraction and infatuation, with exception to adults attracted to minors, age doesn't matter. Legal adults can be infatuated and attracted to each other irrespective of age because feelings are subjective.

What isn't subjective are the possible negative ramifications of the power dynamics caused by large age gaps. A lot of adults ,who dated significantly older partners when they were younger, grow up to resent those people and feel used and manipulated by them. A lot of adults who dated significantly younger people grow to resent them and feel used and manipulated. People who are closer in age are more likely to see through each other's bullshit which increases the chances of a more balanced power dynamic.
Yes. People will say it does not. They have no clue. 50 is 2 decades different. Different stages of life. Different priorities. 30 is making a living. Focusing on career. Or kids and family if married. 50 is winding down. Preparing for retirement. Sex may be great. Relationships are more than sex. Choose wisely.

No. I prefer older guys myself. I'm 48, my bf is 66.
Allelse · 36-40, M
As long as everyone is legal.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
Kinda going through that right now but on both sides. Have a friend that is 7 years older that i proposed to back in 2000 but does not want to get married even though ive asked six times and another person thats 30 younger who lives overseas that ive known for quite a few years wants to marry me. Not as a scam but is sincerely in love with me and Ive grown very fond of them too. But sometimes just because you want to do something and can do something it doesn't mean that you should do it as it will hurt someone else. Or...do you just say," you had your chance.".
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
@PoetryNEmotion i did go over and spent a week with them. But yeah, like you say. A lot of chaos. Hard to just give up.
@Tastyfrzz You have to do what is best for you. At the end of the day, it is you that counts. If you cannot love someone, let them be free. Free to find their true love.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
@PoetryNEmotion i think she loves me but just won't do marriage.
Yes, while it's not a golden rule, those closer within age will have lived lives that give compassion, love, understanding and wisdom with hopefully lives lived. They may understand the other much much more.
akindheart · 61-69, F
y es it does. if you are in the basic age bracket with just a few years, no problem but when you are a generation away, oh yeah. you don't see things the same way. your experiences are not the same.
AbbySvenz · F
It varies by jurisdiction
dale74 · M

Don’t encourage them! @dale74

It can do. There can be a lot of obstacles and you have to be realistic as to what it entails further down the line depending on the age difference. Children, whether there’s already children in the equation, old age, likes, dislikes. That’s not to say that it could never be happy because who are we to make that judgement, it’s down to those involved.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
I've been told time and again through songs, stories and many other anecdotal accounts that love is blind.

And if that is anything to go by, then love must be blind to age, race, creed, class, gender, orientation, and any and all things and concepts in between.

And not just romantic love, but platonic love as well.
exexec · 61-69, C
I have seen good loving relationships involving people 20 years apart. It is likely that one will die years before the other, but they seem to be able to deal with that.
Mardrae · F
I personally would not date anyone a lot older or younger, but that's just my own preference. There's nothing wrong with it for most people.
Kstrong · 56-60, F
No.... Age never comes into the equation if it's real love
I does not matter in love but it does matter with getting along.
billybob69 · 61-69
no it doesn’t , it’s the person you like not the age they are

Yes. Because I don’t want to go to jail and I also don’t want someone that’s going to croak in a few years.
rolex928 · 31-35, M

cause if you get a vast of different opinions off people no.1 you doubt yourself . No 2 you get confused
QueenandCrown · 41-45, F
My preference is older but we have to have mutual respect and open/knowledgeable of generational differences
hunkalove · 61-69, M
The last woman I cared about was half my age. She was 36, I was 72. We didn't last very long.
