I wish I could be religious

Grew up Catholic but as I grew older I became agnostic. But my dad only has weeks to live, from aggressive cancer. It's just breaking my heart and mind. I send out prayer type thoughts to the Universe that he can not be in pain as he faces these final days. I REALLY want an answer why there's so MUCH suffering in the world.

I wish I could just believe or feel he'll be going to Heaven and that his spirit will live in a peaceful place. Even talking about all this is a blur, he was diagnosed just two weeks ago. 😕 And to not be given chemo as a choice, it's been heartbreaking..(they said he is very compromised and the cancer is very aggressive, chemo can kill him ) I don't know how to view this all , when his passing comes..😟

You are a loving person and you care for your father. That is the essence of Religion right there. I hope this remaining time in each other's lives will be good for you both and that you will have all the support you need after his passing.

@ThePatientAnarchist I really appreciate that🌻

@ThePatientAnarchist I'm glad to see you back. I was worried when you were away.
@LordShadowfire Aww, thank you. I just needed a longish break from SW, but it's good to see you again too ☺

I have prayed for your dad...

Once the world because faulty when humanity took on the knowledge of good and evil then pain and suffering in this world is one of the outward signs that this faultyness is active and constant in our current lives.. So pain and suffering is a constant indicator to show us there is a problem with our current state of being..

Just to let you know my dad died of boan cancer and he went through pain and my Mom died after an operation where her wound ( hip breakage ) got infected during the operation.. So in the last 6 years i ahev lost both my pairents, So i know what it is like to watch people die with varying levels of pain..

I hope your father passes quickly and painlessly. I can't imagine how awful it'll be when my parents pass away, they're like my anchor in this world...

There is an answer to why there is so much suffering. That's the question us Jehovah's witnesses get all the time. https://www.jw.org/en/library/brochures/What-Is-the-Purpose-of-Life-How-Can-You-Find-It/Why-So-Much-Suffering-and-Injustice/

In short, it's because 1. Adam and Eve rebelled against God, causing them to get thrown out of the perfect paradise they lived in. Once they had children, their children continued the tradition of sin, probably not being taught any better by their parents. Sometimes I think "well we're not Adam and Eve, so what if we didn't sin once? Would we be set free basically?" but all humans except Jesus eventually sin, even before they knew what a sin is, and even Jesus had to suffer since the world is ruled by sin.

2. Our sinning in itself is causing the terrible situation in the world. Every time we act selfishly and hurt other people we're contributing to it, and 8 billion people constantly make decisions that hurt other people and have created systems that often rewards it. If you lie and cheat and you will get an edge in any work place. If someone hurts you, you're almost expected to hurt them back. And the cherry on top is that God couldn't allow us to live forever due to our sinning, meaning that we suffer health defects and die eventually, but in a world like this I'd argue that it's more of a blessing than a curse. Who would want to live forever in this kind of world? Instead, we get to pass away and hopefully if we did things right we'll get to enjoy paradise once we're resurrected and all evil is wiped out.

3. People are constantly influenced by the evil of demons nowadays. It used to be more explicit in the past (bible history), people could interact with them directly, they got possessed, could do some weak although real magic when they allowed them, and this stuff was evidence in itself for that they existed, although they most certainly believed that these were the act of their false gods. Nowadays, it's more insidious, working behind the shadows with only one end goal: cause suffering and make us all turn away from the true God so that they can win the debate whether humans will follow God from their own will or not.

Job is a good example of this https://www.jw.org/en/library/bible/study-bible/books/job/1/
As you probably know, he was a devout man that God loved the most during his time because he was the most righteous person. Satan hated this, and debated with God that Job was only worshiping God because he had a life free from suffering, which lead to Satan getting the opportunity to cause some real suffering to Job to get the chance to prove his point. Job didn't know who caused him to suffer was Satan, so he blamed Jehovah God. We're all living Job's narrative nowadays, having to prove to Satan that despite our suffering we choose to walk with God because we believe that he will free us from it one day and return us back to a paradise.

Have faith.

Yes, I know those two simple words are anything but simple. But the Creator of Heaven and Earth knows your dad's heart and knows his spirit. All we can do is commit him back to whence he came.

The God of Abraham and Isaac is alive and well and waiting with open arms. 🙏❤🙏

I don’t really know if anyone can explain the reason for suffering in the world. Only upon our exit from this world will we see with understanding. Anyway you and your father are in my prayers 🩵

I am not sure there is much assurance in religion.
I don't find religion to be bad,but there is only obedience ,dogma, and sacraments.
Religion seeks to ritualized that what I believe is the truth, that their is a creator and if their is a creator and perhaps, He wants us to seek Him.
The bible says that we will find God if we seek Him with all our hearts.
I respect some will not seek, nor believe.
I rarely talk about my beliefs here, because ridicule is rife, but since you posted this I feel I should at least attempt an answer.

God, I come before you in prayer. I pray for the one known as Coralmist and family.
With the power vested in me, I bind the spirit of heaviness according to Matthew 18:18 and loose the Garment of praise Oil of joy and comfort.
We choose to uproot every root from our lives and plant the seeds of the Word that keeps us free.
In Jesus's mighty name I pray
Amen

If you're not feeling it, then no need to be concerned with religion. I have beliefs but am not an avid churchgoer. Being a good person is enough.
“There are, after all, atheists who say they wish the fable were true but are unable to suspend the requisite disbelief, or who have relinquished belief only with regret. To this I reply: who wishes that there was a permanent, unalterable celestial despotism that subjected us to continual surveillance and could convict us of thought-crime, and who regarded us as its private property even after we died? How happy we ought to be, at the reflection that there exists not a shred of respectable evidence to support such a horrible hypothesis.”

@BlueSkyKing Interesting , ty for sharing that. I have often thought too, for a God to say *You better love me, or you will have this or that repurcussion,* seems really NOT loving at all..but, you do so wish there were some answers that our spirit DOES live on in some place like Heaven. 🙁
@Coralmist I have no reason for wishful thinking.

You are your own religion ,you do the right thing always. you wouldnt intentionally cause trouble or harm to anyone .You must just keep on being you .
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
If it helps, you can be religious without believing that whoever is in charge of the universe is perfect. That's what I do. It explains everything.

@LordShadowfire Thank you 🌼
