Organized religion controls absolutely.

Organized religion is about control.

Just the existence of project2025 is proof enough. Yet it's been going on for thousands of years in different religions.

Who is the head of church in the UK?

Why are the Abrahamic religions so regulated in China to the point that most of China is Taoist or minimally Buddhist?

Why is there a war in the middle east?

I find the obsession with Jesus Christ's suffering for our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane VERY disturbing. And the obsession with His suffering on the cross.

The bible doesn't go into the obsessive depth that some church members do when they are giving lectures or talks about it.

I find the obsession with the gore and the agony deeply disturbing. I nearly got up and walked out of a meeting once because the speaker was just going on and on.

That asking for forgiveness by way of prayer absolves sins and that it's okay to continue to carry on with life. Repentance is not a ritual. It is a deed. It needs to form change and make things better. Saying 3 hail marys till the next rape doesn't make it repentance.
conscienceforsale · 46-50, M
Ah... heaven and hell. That is the other disturbing "fact"...
conscienceforsale · 46-50, M
@LordShadowfire According to some religions if they had "repented" they'd be in "heaven".

PS: I am an atheist. As for Adolf Hitler or Jeffrey Dahmer I hope they're rotting somewhere uncared.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@conscienceforsale I agree. I'm not precisely an atheist, but the gods I believe in don't have any contradictions that I know of. They don't claim to be simultaneously 100% good, 100% knowledgeable, and all-powerful. Epicurus very eloquently explained why that doesn't work.
KingofBones1 · 46-50, M
The fact that it has been changed so many times and used to control the masses as a form of reward versus punishment. That really bothers me because your relationship with your personal Creator is between you and God not some man who's going to try to tell you what you should and should not be doing when he is just as flawed as you are

The reason much of Latin America is Catholic is in large part due to the brutal actions of the Spaniards. They tortured, beat, and burned tribal leaders alive. They destroyed a lot of their religious iconography, temples, texts, and artifacts. They took kids away from their tribe to indoctrinate them into Catholicism. And pretty much anyone else was closely monitored (i.e. intimidated) to ensure they strictly followed their teachings.
BamPow · 51-55, M
The fact that Jesus apparently bets on sporting events as he is often thanked by athletes for helping them win.
basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
@BamPow Jesus supplies performance enhancing drugs confirmed.
@basilfawlty89 In that case, Jesus should be a banned substance.
FoxyQueen · 51-55, F
How often it is used to promote hate and oppression.
That people read the description of God and think he's loving and good. I don't even care if of it's real or not. By religious people's own stories, he sounds like a terrible entity.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
People take it seriously.
Many become cults
That we repeat patterns of biblical figures because we don’t know the word.
There are people who actually believe that there is some omnipresent, omniscient thing in the sky looking at them, judging them, and even if that wasn't bad enough, expect others to follow their beliefs.

And worse...there are "leaders" of such religions who encourage and peddle such nonsense.

That Bob Dylan was correct in "With God On Our Side"

@ArtieKat I am learning very recently how beautifully subversive he has been this entire time.
ArtieKat · M
@LordShadowfire A brilliant wordsmith - even if some of his songs have been better interpreted by other artists
Through history, there has been a lot of death in the name of religion.
they cause wars

None of them are registered in a democracy. We have registration system for every other thing except religion & family.
in10RjFox · M
@basilfawlty89 That's reservation .. Not Registration Which is actually illegitimate.
basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
@in10RjFox yeah, but they kinda still do it based on which religious group your family belongs to,.
in10RjFox · M
@basilfawlty89 That's if what we know as "Mafia".
SlippingAway · 46-50, F
It's a way to control and oppress those that are different
Listen to Americans talk about Jesus and you could write paragraphs about what’s wrong with it.

Same with the Muslims and the Jews.

It’s crowd control, and it encourages to hate anyone who thinks independently.

@AdmiralPrune oh they're actually pretty evil. Think "billion year" contracts and slave labour.
@basilfawlty89 I suppose it won’t be taken serious as a religion unless it’s doing something evil.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
It's all about the money
Infamous607 · 51-55, M
That every civilization, every group of people, independent from each other thru time and space, they all came up with the idea of deities and therefore religions. That blows my mind

@acpguy ok
Pretzel · 70-79, M
that religion is good and wholesome

it's the people that eff it up
acpguy · C
They are all into control of people and countries. Hinduism is the most realistic but that isn't even totally safe.
basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
Both hilarious and disturbing:

The new Pope exhumed the previous Pope, and questioned him for interrogation.
That people adapt whatever religion they purport to be part of as they see fit
ABCDEF7 · M
That it is man made.
That so many people allow their lives to be destroyed by its obvious nonsense.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
The most evil thing that has ever happened to this pitiful broken planet.
basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
@hunkalove I'd have said smooth jazz, but hey.
@basilfawlty89 I don't believe any deaths can (yet) be attributed to smooth jazz.

But I agree - it's close.

Most of them are false.

How the hell can you reject sin for all eternity.
HobNoblin · 36-40, M
People take it literally instead of as instructive mythology. Then the kill each other over it.
