If you were dating someone who had to move away in the near future what would you do?

I think an LTR with regular Skyping (or other video messaging so you still see each other. During Basic you'll have to stick with letters, calls are timed, and infrequent in Basic training. For a better, more in depth letter, write a little each day. After Basic, and any special training he may have to go through, you'll be able to contact each other when you're both free. Tell your boyfriend that I am thanking him in advance for his service. :-) and you...stay strong. Be proud of your armed services man. :-)

I think you may have answered your own question. Do what you feel you won't regret the least. A LDR couldn't hurt n if you feel that's too much you could always break up n call it not meant to be. I'm sorry for your troubles.

See, I'm fine with a long distance relationship, but he's been in a long distance relationship before where the girl was cheating on him the whole time so he's not thrilled about the long distance relationship thing at all. At the same time, it's hard for me to move away from the only place I've ever lived, my family, and my friends, give up my job, my schooling, my pets, and go live in a strange environment. If I've been with him for a year maybe I'd feel different, but it's only been about two months.

I know all about that Basic stuff like letters and timed calls. My brother was in the army so I've been through that before. I have no problem with him going into the military at all. If anything, I actually like him more for his decision to join. I just rather a LTR relationship than having to move to where he'll be located (after basic when he has a permanent station that is) but him and I seem to not quite be on the same page there since he rather the opposite. Thank you for your comment though. I appreciate it. :)

You would know the best because you know your own situation and what you want. If you were just looking for fun, or if you don't think you can handle the stress of the later 2 options(which is perfectly reasonable because its a very large sacrifice) or if its just the option you want to do then break ups the option to go. Long distance would be the smartest decision if you have long term goals of your own, I think move with would only be a really smart decision if a.) you aren't doing anything with your life and dont plan to b.) you don't have a reliable living place. C.) you want to do some moving every couple years. D.) You want to be a housewife and you already have kids with him.

You've only started few months and if I am in your situation, I will agree to a long distance relationship! Sometime this will prove how true you will be to each other.

I understand. If I had more than a job here, I would find it very hard to move.

Well, long distance is ok for a little while, but if you have no intentions of moving (either of you) to be with the other, it's wrong to let him think there would be a chance.

keep the relationship .....and in the fist few months you generally arent allowed to go with him anyhow. see how it goes while youre apart and make a consenual judgement on it in a few months

I think I would try the long distance relationship first. Then if that goes good for a while, then think about moving to where he is.
