Lonely inside of a marriage

I am often lonely, despite being married. I'm left to my own devices a lot of the time. Anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to keep the loneliness to a minimum? I have no idea how anyone in my situation deals with this for long (and no, I can't leave, it's complicated). So frustrating.

I'm not sure if there are kiddos involved, but I'm left on the back burner quite a bit. I've started doing things for myself. I'll go out for a beer with a friend or take my dog for a walk/drive. Sometimes, I'll go to a store and plan home projects. I'm available to be a family man when necessary, but for the most part, I do my own thing. Bought myself a jet ski for when I want to enjoy the sunshine and water.
Why are you stuck at home. Why don't you go out & make some friends maybe?

It sounds like you live in my world ☹
Not sure your situation. I understand its complicated and frustrating. You said you don't have many friends. Are there things you can do out of your house. Maybe take a hobby class, or go out for an afternoon at a museum. Its important to do things and stay active. Maybe a exercise class at a local gym or ymca, you might meet some people who could be friends. The important thing is that you are responsible. If you depend on others to keep you from being lonely, you may be sadly disappointed.

Many people have made “connections” on here and have a friend that comes with benefits. Not talking about a fling but a lasting friendship

chatting here, taking a class or two, volunteering your time ..something like that?
@Pretzel I guess I could look into a class of some sort.

@prettyfacade and it doesn't have to be a college credit class

maybe a self-defense class (for the exercise)
painting
book club
cooking class

Can you not invite friends over? Or get out and join social groups or take some classes?
@OutoftheGloom I don't really have friends. Just never worked out lol. But I could look into a class.

@prettyfacade well it might help you make friends too

i would say get out but people always say they cant for some reason..then i say you have 50 more nyears of it then
@helenoftroy2000 sometimes people literally can't. I can't work due to my child having a medical condition that requires me to be available,, even when they're in school.

@prettyfacade the counseling to maybe make the 50 years bearable

I hear this so often, and honestly it has turned me against marriage. I mean the IDEA of marriage is nice, but in my entire life, I've never met a married couple who were truly happy.

If you can't leave, my advice would be to find something to completely immerse yourself in. A hobby, volunteer work, even a job. Something to give you fulfillment in life that you're not getting in marriage.

do you have a life or identity outside of being a wife? Why are you lonely?

Just bang some pans together to get attention then make a suggestion on something to do together.

That's a tough draw .. I'm assuming you've tried talking with him about it and are not seeing change ..

Hobbies, friends, volunteering, work can help you find some relief .. as can learning to become more comfortable and content in your own company

Try giving things to help charities of your up a hobby... Learn something and reading.... Or you can just waste your time here like the rest of us😜
@Convivial I do read, bit of a bookworm. And I find myself here a good bit now lol

@prettyfacade I'm the same with reading... Almost anything except romance novels lol... It can be fun here if you get the right people or if you enjoy watching paint dry.....
@Convivial lol, I don't read traditional romance at all, I do read dark romance and other spicy types. And various other genres, non-spicy. Haha, good to know!
