You don’t need to be in a relationship. If you’ve been talking to someone for a month and have gone on a couple dates, and then just block the person out of the blue without an explanation, that is indeed ghosting. Even if someone’s just a casual repeat hookup, dropping off the face of the earth without a word is just rude

I think it could have a slightly broader usage, such as in friendships, but like, taking a while to respond isn't "ghosting". It has to be an actual cold turkey disappearance.
It's like gaslighting. Gaslighting is form of psychological manipulation. It isn't just having a different perspective on something, but that's how I see it used. "You don't agree with me on this, therefore you're gaslighting me".

Can it also mean leaving without notice? Or like ceasing communication? My buddy dropped out of contact bc he dropped his phone in a pool. Did i get ghosted?
exchrist · 31-35
Any interaction. If i stop interacting. I ghosted you?
Maybe i just get distracted easily? My sister went to work without saying bye did she ghoST. me? when she stepped into the crosswalk?

@exchrist literally none of that is ghosting. Ghosting is when someone you were in communication with and had the reasonable expectation of continuing to be in communication with suddenly digitally vanishes, usually blocking you on everything or at the very least ceasing responding to you, without a single word about it, with the intention to never to be seen or heard from again. It’s abandonment without a single warning or explanation, and often leaves you wondering what the hell went wrong, occasionally wondering if they’re even still alive.

There's a ton of phrases and trends that are mega overused on social media, e.g., narcissists, toxic, self love/love yourself, gaslighting, blah..

Some people have mental issues dear that is far too complicated and too complex for you to understand. Just find whatever is normal and stay with it. Good luck. ☺
YoMomma ·
You don't have to be in a relationship to be ghosted
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
It literally can be used in any situation; it's not only for formalized relationships.

Probably
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
ghosting has nothing to do with romance though, if you're just talking and the other person vanishes that's ghosting

Toxic is also overused way too much.

You need to file the complaint to LIFE that makes them ghost. It's not they who ghost.
exchrist · 31-35
Whered you go? I went gosting.

I think it can be used just fine for lesser relationships but people take being ghosted wayyyyy to seriously. People drift apart, it's not a big deal.

Please be more specific.
