Independence is important, but it should be understood in balance. Being independent doesn’t mean disregarding your partner or taking it to an extreme where you act as if you're completely unattached.

Doing whatever you want, whenever you want, without regard for others, isn’t independence—it’s selfishness. If that’s your mindset, perhaps being single is a better fit.
