Why do you think humans have such a tough time empathising with one another?

I think it’s just difficult for people to truly understand things they’ve not experienced. So, many people are so blindsided, and unaware of what’s going on in the world, because it’s not affecting them directly. A lot of the time when you’ve never experienced something you don’t think about it or realize how bad it truly is.
While empathy is popular these days, I'm not sure how useful it is.

I would rather have a doctor attending me who knows how to fix my broken leg than one who knows how a broken leg feels.

@Mamapolo2016 a doctor, yes. But maybe you'd have different expectations from say, a psychotherapist
@basicgirl12 Not if the non-empathetic psychotherapist knew how to fix my broken mind.

Not sure. I can't speak for anyone else, but empathy is something I had to practice and learn through experience. I didn't get a lot of socialization as a kid so that might be why.

Depends on the general culture and family culture, but many are going into "survival" mode and see only themselves.

The ones who empathize well get stuck working about their own problems so much they cannot expend energy thinking outward. The ones who don't empathize well take advantage of others. The system punishes caring for each other and rewards selfishness.
