No,it is polite, and we can all hold doors open for each other.
NiftyWhite · 46-50, F
No and i also think it’s really polite when a gentleman steps aside to less me pass if he sees i’m about to come out of the same door he wants to enter. It sounds weird when i write it - like duh who would enter the same door someone’s coming out of anyway? - but it’s a deliberate expression of respect and manners.
JarJarBoom · 41-45, F
No...its just being nice

I don't think so, but I've gotten that whole "I can open my own doors, thank you" spiel before 🤷♂️
SAandME · 56-60, M
@UckfayOuyayOotay Yup i have had that too!, i just give it back now with both barrels that i hold a door open out of manners for anyone not just women.
Northwest · M
It depends on why, and whether it's because this is a woman.
I hold the door open, for anyone following me, men or women.
Chivalry is all about the intent you have behind it. Men will never be able to appreciate what it means.

If I get to the door first, I’ll open It for you and I’m perfectly capable of opening it for myself. Small acts of courtesy such as opening doors does not imply the recipient of the courtesy is insufficient to the challenge of door-breaching. It’s just a little day-brightener.
nedkelly · 61-69, M
NO - it shows respect to the lady
jaymic64 · M
I think it’s polite

The word is chivalrous
Asm0deus · F
It’s common curtesy. Today I held the dood open for three guys at the Barnes & Noble. Two leaving and one going in.
Be rude if I’m walking out and the two guys behind me have a door shut in their face when I could hold it open. I wouldn’t want anyone to do that to me.

If the only reason you're doing that is because she's a woman, that's probably sexist.
Oddly enough, there's beneficial forms of sexism. Like women getting their dinners paid for or men being more likely to get promoted at work

SW-User
Hahahah yes and holding for a man Gay
HoraceGreenley · 61-69, M
Not to me. It's how I was raised. If my mother finds out I didn't hold the door open for a woman she'll kick my ass.
