You can be free to explore your sensuality and sexuality without worrying about your relationship. You can be free to try anything, but like all aspect of humanness doesn't mean you will connect. Now, those together in a relationship, where every desire you want is found within them a dalliance is not even comparable. Yet, how often do you have desire filled? ( and having that with someone you love is also a desire )

There's another part, some people are drawn to taboo and they just need taboo.

I think reasons could vary but in my case there is no desire for a relationship but there is a biological need. There was a FWB relationship years ago after my divorce that was a mutually agreeable arrangement.

I'm sure it's different for everyone. Personally, when I went through my slut phase, it was about sex and control. I didn't have to get to know them. I just had fun and then moved onto someone else to see what they were like. At first it was sexy and fun to be wanted, but it got meaningless very quickly. In saying that, I'd probably hook up with someone again if there was chemistry. Just not something I would seek out like I used to.

We all have itches that need to be scratched.

People in relationships take care of each other's needs.

People who are not in a relationship, seek hookups to scratch that itch, and a human being can talk when a sex toy doesn't.

It's the thrill of the new, and perhaps the chance to experiment sexually and try things your current partner perhaps doesn't want to do.
