Opposites attract. Someone like Hermione is best complimented my a timid relaxed and anxious person like Ron. I agree with @Saage Harry is not an alpha. A relationship between Harry and Hermione would have made both of of these characters more uncomfortable especially in Potions class. The sun signs of Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley match better. I agree with that except for calling Harry an alpha male, he was an outcast and bullied or at least looked down upon by most students. Hermione who was also an outcast however, would seriously have grativated towards Harry, rather than an alpha male (like Cedric) or weak-willed Ron.

Actually, I can see it.. Hermione in any other plot, would have been the star of her own show.. So picking a partner like Ron, basically good, but easily directed, makes perfect sense for her. Remembering it was her who made the first move on an unsuspecting Ron..😷
