Absolutely anything by Terry Pratchett. "Mort" is a good place to start.

Anything by Neil Gaiman. Start with, "The Ocean at the End of the Lane."

Saint Maybe by Anne Tyler. A young man accidentally causes the deaths of his brother and sister-in-law, leaving her three children orphaned. He spends the story trying to find forgiveness in himself , and redemption by giving up on the plans he had for his future in order to take care of them. Spoiler alert: it takes him the entire book to find it.

Currently reading Gladwell's latest, The Bomber Mafia, which I received for Christmas. As with all of his books, fascinating the way he weaves a multitude of things together to explain what happened. His non-fiction beats most fiction these days as far as story-telling goes.

If you're into shorter reads, I can recommend The Secret of the Rose by Sarah L. Thompson, the Dark Fusion trilogy by Neal Shusterman or Beauty by Nancy Butcher.

American Nations by Collin Woodard was an interesting read (non-fiction) and American Gods by Neil Gaiman (fiction) is still one of my favorites after many years.

Can you narrow down a genre? Or what subjects interest you?

[c=800000]Robert Caro's biographical series on LBJ. Caro has published four volumes. It is fascinating!
"The Coldest Winter." (David Halberstam) This is about Red China's entry to the Korean War in 1950. Any of Halberstam's other books are also excellent. He wrote about history and sports.
"The Last Stand." An interesting biography of Custer, Sitting Bull and their cohorts.
