Those in the US or Canada, ever seen such a plug type where one pin is bigger than the other?!! This will never fit in any adapter i have for US plug type .. is this a faulty product or what exactly..🤷♀️
What sort of adapter such pins will fit in!!! I havr this one for US/Canada plug type but of course it won't fit since one pin is bigger than the othe .. so mad
@SooperSarah Thank you so much, just searched with "polarized plug" and found many adapters with one pin wider than the other, will buy one!
Can't believe I sent the seller a message with many exclamation marks 🤭🥔 It is just that I have a US like adapter with no such plug type, so I was sure there was something wrong with the device lol
@BittersweetPotato but in America, because one can be bigger than the other, the bigger one will not go in the smaller hole, so you have to make sure everything is turned the correct direction.
That being said, your outlet (when turned with the circle down), the left one looks like it's thicker
@BittersweetPotato Maybe, but that right one does look thinner in the picture, though not nessarily taller.
But yes, I talked with someone that knows that I do, and as others have already said here, it's called polarize plugs, when that one is bigger than the other.
And I guess American houses were set up for 120 voltage, while Europe started later and learned from American errors and started with the 220 voltage, which is not 230 voltage.
Also, apparently, American households are often getting 240 voltage, but it's then split into two 120 voltages for the appliances, because it would be too costly for change.
I guess in the 1950s America considered changing it, but didn't.
Yes, it has become common for one pin to be larger than the other in the US. It was not always the case, but the purpose is to make sure your device is properly grounded when you plug it in.
@DrWatson Ah! I just sent an angry meaaage to the seller on amazon for their faulty device lol wtf i researched this not even sure what type of plug is this in order to buy the adapter 🤷♀️
Couple of years ago, I got a printer from Sweden. It came with an EU plug only, so I switched it out for a British plug that I had lying around and it's worked fine for two years now.
@Ontheroad When I searched it, it is almost like ALL adapters have this type of plug!! LOL It REALLY is very common now that I know what it is! Funnily, I was in an electricity shop earlier today and when I showed them the plug, they were like wth is that, there is no such thing ever 🤷♀️ and since my US adapter did not have such plug type as well, I really got convinced that there is something wrong with the device! The seller on amazon is probably laughing reading my message.
Um, I'm not expert, but nothing looks out of normal to me. My extension cord plus, all have openings where the left one is bigger than the right one (when plugging it in)
Though you seem to holding the adapter upside down, the circle ⭕ goes on the bottom.
[EDIT: A Canadian showed a picture where the circle is at the top, I haven't seen that before, so maybe it's the opposite up in Canada? But the ones I've seen in the US, the circle is always down]
@deadgerbil it is not about this. I have thr adapter for us type of plug but one pin is bigger than the other so how the hell will it fit EVEN in the US type adapter
