To Science... is to question... not control

I laugh when people say something is absolute because "SCIENCE SAYS SO"

History has proven many things, especially that our understanding of science and the universe around us is more than we understand...
History has proven that science is NOT absolute...
Science is inexact and ever changing...
That is why it is called science...

So the next time someone tells you science says so..
Reply, "yea... just remember that science once said the universe revolved around earth"
Pfft!!!!

Actually science never said that the universe revolved around the earth, the church did.
nocool · 51-55, M
@black4white
Not it isn't... and... lets not forget...
Math is also inexact...
Our models of math do not accurately identify much of what is happening in our universe...

When I was a kid the science books in schoolhad dinosaurs with long tails. That has been changed now

When I was a teen, maybe young 20s, they were all warning about an ice age coming in the next ten years. Now it is global warming

I am sure there are many other examples where science evolved to follow new evidence.

Seems like money and politics play more of a role in science these days, but hopefully, most scientist are still following the evidence, not the grant money.
Ynotisay · M
@Jlhzfromep OK. But you just made that up about "they were all warning about an Ice Age," right? Because that's not true. That Time magazine cover that's held up as proof? It's a hoax. And it's almost like you've forgotten about the ENORMOUS advances in technology since the 70's.
What are you fighting AGAINST dude? Seriously. What's in it for you? Other than phony rage against "the man." I don't get it.
Jlhzfromep · M
@Ynotisay I am into science very much. I was just giving examples of things I have witnessed in my life. And no mater what is reported as a hoax, I actually heard it on news reports and shows. Maybe the news media is to blame for jumping on the band wagon of the day back then, similar how they seem to do today.
Science is evolving and when scientist do not question things then they stop being scientist.
AndysAttic · 56-60, M
Science is testable and changes, what it does not do...regardless of the proof is to say: 'Well that is that completely proven anyone that questions it is a liar'.
My working adage is: If it’s not science, it’s superstition. Sure, science is far from perfect, but is there any other methodology that does better? Or equally?

JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@BlueSkyKing Love this.
@BlueSkyKing That’s brilliant ! 👍🏽

The intent of science is to gain a clear perception of the very world we live in.

To experiment, to try things out, to see what works and what doesn't.

To take newfound ideas and put them to the test, or to take the already tried, tested and time honored methodoligies and see whether or not they stand the test of time or if they can be improved upon.

To analyze and synthesize, to break things down to their core elements and reconstitute those core elements back into their original whole.

Sure, science can be risky and messy, but that's where the most, if not all of the fun of it lies.

Winter Woes – Green New Deal Turns Deadly

https://www.armstrongeconomics.com/world-news/climate/winter-woes-green-new-deal-turns-deadly/

Excerpt from entire article within, link above below:

[Over 150 million Americans are under a winter chill advisory due to life-threatening temperatures. Every state besides Hawaii has issued some form of caution to residents as nearly 80% of the nation faces below-freezing weather. Extreme weather highlights the importance of fossil fuels, as there is NO reliable alternative.
Texas is on the verge of having another power grid failure of the ERCOT system. Around 11,000 Texans experienced power outages on Monday. In 2021, a winter storm devastated the state, millions lost power, and hundreds lost their lives, causing state leaders to move further from renewables. Governor Abbott blamed solar and wind energy reliance for thrusting the state into a lethal situation, and called the Green New Deal “a deadly deal for the United States of America.”]

What's your point? There are no absolute certainties in science. It's not mathematics. They're called empirical truths. And any scientist will tell you the same thing.
Those who play the card you just played are angling at something different. The "right" to believe whatever horseshit they want because, I don't know, doing their own research? Feeeeelings?
I'd bet big that you didn't read this article, don't understand this article or get why "textbooks' would be rewritten in the future. Just something to rail against. Whatever.

Settled science is not science, only by questioning things all the time can we move forward.

Or we get stuff like this below:

@therighttothink50
What he said!!!
Hahaha!!!
"There is no desire more natural than the desire for knowledge" Michel de Montaigne
If that was not true all human beings would still be living in caves.
In high school we learned the Scientific Method:
1. Make an observation.
2. Ask a question.
3. Form a hypothesis or testable explanation.
4. Make a prediction about the hypothesis.
5. Test the prediction and record the results.

6. Literate: use the results to make new hypotheses or predictions.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@softspokenman That's all it is folks! nothing to do with conspiracy theories, feelings, your identity politically or religious, it's a method of investigating the nature of reality.
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
A site you may look to explore.

https://www.geoengineeringwatch.org/

Green eco cultists are destroying many lives. The deadly winter cold snap is causing much misery for US citizens. This winter is highlighting a huge deadly problem this forced politically motivated transition to green energy is becoming.

Green fanatics refuse to acknowledge the main problem regarding the weather: climate geoengineering aka weather warfare. Green fanaticism is literally killing people. This cold Winter is proving this.

But I agree with you. Science does it's best to explain the world with the information it has. If there is more information that disproves the original hypothesis, it will accept that and refine it's ideas.
nocool · 51-55, M
@JimboSaturn
Agree..
RenFur · 70-79, M
@JimboSaturn Refine is the key word... progressing. Moving forward.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Still a hell of a lot more reliable and testable than religion
nocool · 51-55, M
@Picklebobble2 agree.... i am not religious...
But i do believe in God...
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
Everyone who uses that argument knows nothing of real science...

Actual science is the pursuit of knowledge; their version of "science" is attempting to gaslight anyone who disagrees with their opinion...

In my school science text book they told me Pluto is the 9th planet of our solar system. Now they say it's a dwarf planet, and should not be counted as a Planet.
Richard65 · M
Thanks for posting this, bud. You've shown just how little you actually know about science 🤣🤣
Pfft!!!!
nocool · 51-55, M
@Richard65
How so?
I would love to get your facts on science and how it is absolutely perfect....

I will say... you don't understand what science actually is...
Adrift · 61-69, F
I simply just ask them to give me the definition of science and what it means.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
At one time those great folks said Pluto was a planet
Richard65 · M
@JimboSaturn it wasn't an insult, you just concisely explained his error. There was no sarcasm or arrogance in your reply.
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
@MarineBob “Much of the social history of the Western world, over the past three decades, has been a history of replacing what worked with what sounded good.” — Thomas Sowell
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@MarineBob Well it was demoted by the astronomist people, they don't sell textbooks.
thenormalkindofcrazy · 31-35, M
Science is a way to understand the world. It's why in science "prove" and its variations are considered bad words. We have a few laws, such as gravity, but even now some researchers are trying to understand or be more precise. That's why any time some research paper says, "We proved that..." I tune out.

Science never said that lmao
Science is NOT fact..............it is the constant search for facts.
Renaci · 36-40
Those that rather believe in anti science should definitely be controled though. They have ruined the world enough and had exclusive power in Europe for a thousand years and we now call that the dark ages.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Renaci maybe they should stop using this technology that we are using right now since it was invented by science.
