To Science... is to question... not control

I laugh when people say something is absolute because "SCIENCE SAYS SO"

History has proven many things, especially that our understanding of science and the universe around us is more than we understand...
History has proven that science is NOT absolute...
Science is inexact and ever changing...
That is why it is called science...

So the next time someone tells you science says so..
Reply, "yea... just remember that science once said the universe revolved around earth"
Pfft!!!!

Actually science never said that the universe revolved around the earth, the church did.

@JimboSaturn perfect response 👌
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Richard65 The church was absolutist lol! He got it all backwards.
Richard65 · M
@JimboSaturn ironically, threats of death and torture from the Church held back scientific discovery for a thousand years and hindered any kind of beneficial progress for human beings. Imagine how much more advanced we'd be if religion hadn't stamped out progress for a millennia.

@JimboSaturn a CONSENSUS of doctors/ scientists said ulcers were caused by nerves, until a doctor, in the 1970s, proved that ulcers were caused by a bacterial. There are no absolutes
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Patriot96 Correct. I agreed with that. Science and medicine are open to changing their theories once new information is available; it keeps getting more accurate the more we learn. That is the beauty of it.
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
@JimboSaturn except when the researchers are paid to push a predetermined outcome
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Patriot96 Not at all. The research gets peer reviewed and gets intense scrutiny from the scientific community. Why is everything a conspiracy with you folks? text book sales, predetermined outcome?
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
@JimboSaturn and you trust the peer review.
Is that like 97% of scientists believe in global warming
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Patriot96 Yes 97% of scientists believe in global warming because numerous research studies were conducted and they all survived the peer review. Yes I trust the peer review, scientist are competitive and seek to find holes in theories; that is their job.
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
@JimboSaturn you kinda believe bullshit. That was actually only 67 out of 69 so called scientists who submitted their research based on computer projections. Not the entire scientific community .
The computer can only spit out projections based on variables input. If any variable id wrong/ fudged or missed, it skews the outcome
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Patriot96 We've had this discussion before. It's not computer projections that prove the past. Ellewood Blues provided you with a plethora of information that you have chosen to ignore.

But this post is about science claiming to be absolute, and it does not as most of the users have answered.

It's funny that we are discussing this on the very medium invented by science and at one point was impossible for science to achieve. However, science worked on the problem and low and behold, we are having a discussion with each other from great distances! Thank god science is not absolute, it's better than that.
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
@JimboSaturn there have been about 40 global climate catastrophes prdicted since the 1970s, none of which have occurred.
If im wrong, i will apologize to the polar bears
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Patriot96 You're missing the point of this post.
black4white · 56-60, M
@JimboSaturn Science is pretty straight forward and accurate kinda like math. The problem is OUR interpretation NOW that is where you get everything all jacked up. LOL
nocool · 51-55, M
@JimboSaturn
Incorrect... and scientists back then were a big part of church... so either way.... it was noted Science was said to prove the universe revolved around the earth...

Later said to be around the Sun...
The more we learned... the more it changed...
All under the name of science.
nocool · 51-55, M
@black4white
Not it isn't... and... lets not forget...
Math is also inexact...
Our models of math do not accurately identify much of what is happening in our universe...
