Why do I have to verify my identity when I call to pay my own bills over the phone?

Getting through these days makes it feel as if i were trying to get into Gort Knox!

I really had the two part verification! Too often by the time I find the secret decoder key, the original interaction disappears.

You could be using a stolen credit card/bank account info. They want to make sure the payment method belongs to you.
