I have a script which results in the scam call hanging up when I get to the part about the call being recorded. Works every time!

ArtieKat · M
I've started a new response when I'm not too rushed and am feeling playful: I say to the caller that in order to get through security I need their full name, date of birth and home post code. It's amazing how many hang up straightaway! 😂 (Then I block them). When I have a missed call - like you where it only rings once or twice) I use a website called https://who-called.co.uk/
It's very useful usually

@ArtieKat This youtuber is good at catching scammers out.

I scam them back. Yes if I have nothing better to do then I keep them on the phone for as long as I possibly can. String them along and make them believe that they are in a chance of trying to rip me off. I have chatted to scammers, told them rice is boiling over and all sorts of other things to keep them waiting.

@PatientlyWaiting25 a guilt trip only mothers could induce! 😭
@PatientlyWaiting25 Put grandma on the phone, they love talking to little old ladies
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@PatientlyWaiting25 That's what my dad used to do and he was very good at it 🤣
I give the phone to grandma. Now picture this, you have a charming, kind hearted grandma engaging a scammer on the phone, keeping them occupied for more than an hour. She listens attentively, poses endless questions, and recounts delightful stories about her cats, all the while believing she is talking to her long deceased brother Stephen in Minnesota. The grandma is having the time of her life, chatting away with the scammer while simultaneously outsmarting them.

We just sit back laughing our tails off

@ThickMadame Have you seen this guy before?

@mossyboots My husband does this stuff to them....It's so funny
Musicman · 61-69, M
We had friends over a couple of weeks ago when my phone rang. I was fairly sure it was a spam caller. I was right. He wanted to confirm a few details so they could finish processing my loan application. Lol!!! 🤣🤣🤣 When he asked for my name I told him it was Mark Knopfler, he is the lead singer of Dire Straights. I told them I was so glad they called. That we needed that $60 million dollar loan in four days to complete the deal. And, how soon could we expect the $60 million in our account. The guy started stuttering and said his authority ended at $10,000. That his company would not be able to help us. I kept asking if he was sure. That they had mislead us into believing they were ready and able to be our financial partner. Finally the guy got so stressed out that he actually hung up on me. Lol!!! Everyone was rolling in laughter and was wondering how I came up with that line. 😁😂😂😂😂

@Musicman That was a good one!
MellyMel22 · F
I used to put them on mute to tie up their phone lines, but it’s useless now I think. A couple of times I banged metal however it was loudest, but now I just hang up.
I used to put my son on the phone with them when he was a toddler

FrugalNoodle · 46-50, M
I just hang up, once though when dad was still here there was a scammer who made him think it was his nephew and was asking for a large amount of money!!
mossyboots · 51-55, F
@FrugalNoodle They search out for older ones because they think they are easy meat.
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
A whistle that I kept from my raving days, a sharp blow of that in their earhole is very effective.
Also, if I'm not expecting a call from a non contact I ignore the call then block the number.
mossyboots · 51-55, F
@RodneyTrotter1 That is what I'm doing from now, ignoring calls I don't recognise. I might buy a whistle though just for the helluvit ,,!
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@mossyboots Glad I'm not the only one still up in the UK 🤣 The whistle is a guaranteed winner, I always start mumbling before I blow it, it makes them put their phone closer to their ear 🤣
mossyboots · 51-55, F
@RodneyTrotter1 I sleep in fits and starts!
Zaphod42 · 51-55, M
I don’t answer calls from numbers I don’t recognize, and I never call anyone back until I’ve googled the number 🤷‍♂
mossyboots · 51-55, F
@Zaphod42 Yes, I recently found out there are sites that tell you if the number is a scam or not.
Iwillwait · M
I am at a point I won't even answer my phone anymore.
Prettybratbi1tch · 26-30, F
I don't answer calls from numbers not saved in my contacts
mossyboots · 51-55, F
@Prettybratbi1tch This is what I will do now.
Likestoenjoylife · 51-55, M
Dont give my number to stores that ask for it then dont answer any numbers I dont know
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
I answer the phone and don’t say anything so they think it’s not a real number.
mossyboots · 51-55, F
@MrBrownstone Good idea!
MarineBob · 61-69, M
When it says spam I answer Immigration
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
Either don't answer or if you do, hang up then immediately block/delete the number (if the caller-ID info is not being blocked).
jackjones68 · 51-55, M
I always pretend im an old lady on the phone. And play it out until they hang up
mossyboots · 51-55, F
@jackjones68 "Hello dearie, 🎶 is it me you're looking for?" 🎶
Degbeme · 70-79, M
Usually playfully until they get angry with me, swear at me and hang up.
mossyboots · 51-55, F
@Degbeme Then their true colours appear and some become very malicious.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@mossyboots I don`t pay any attention to their threats
FelicityDavenport · 26-30, F
I'm generally a little shit in that I just string them along for absolute ages...providing I have nothing else going on in my day...Just BS them with all manner of illogical mumbo jumbo and numbers!

🙂
Hand the phone to your toddler and say it's Santa Claus.
