Is there a food you just cannot eat either because of health or an intense dislike of it?
As kids, most start out drinking cordials, fruit juices and fizzy drinks for a treat. I know this isn't all kids, but I think it is probably a big percentage of us as youngsters. Most of us are brought up with a strong neutral pathway to sweeter tasting substances, and we don't tend to crave harsh and bitter tastes. But as we get on a bit our taste changes.
My mother told me about how her gran used to give her a wee drop of Guinness as a baby to soothe her. I remember trying a little sip myself as a kid and it felt like I had stuck my tongue on a battery (another kid got me to do this at eleven 🙄) so beer has never been a favourite of mine. Or: Sushi, black pudding, liver or any kind of offal, coleslaw.
I can not eat beets. They simply will not get past my throat. There are other things i find texturally off putting. Sweet peas. Ripe bananas. But if starving, those things i could manage. Beets, pickled or no...can't be done.
The yellow curved fruit. I have a phobia of it. Can't even be in the same room as one, or see a drawing of one on the telly, without getting anxiety. I even failed law school because one of my classmates ate it every day. My anxiety just couldn't handle it.
I am a picky eater in general but I absolutely cannot handle coconut. The taste and texture is gross. Also no sushi or raw fish. I also cannot eat raw pineapple because I developed oral allergy syndrome to it and it makes my tongue feel weird and then go numb.
I love Guinness and a full English is never complete without black pudding. I don't like hash browns, I find them sickly and can't eat poached eggs if they have any trace of runny white.
I will get sick if I ate Peanuts. I never like broccoli. Also the older I get chili will make me fart. If I can gas my husband out of the room it is bad
Cilantro, asparagus, licorice, five spice powder, turnip salad, mustard greens, canned garden, peas, olives, black olives, Lamb, livers, gizzards, chitlins, pepper, jack cheese, and all of the hot peppers
@Sweet00LullabyBeans, nuts and veggies that have a decent amount. I don’t aim for high protein. I’m one of those who gains weight from high protein diets. I tried one with a nutritionist to try to lose another 10lbs after a baby and I gained 12 on it and had a fit, told her I was fine with her plans 🙄 I had never gained weight but for pregnancy, so I was pissed.
