I really don't mind being the passenger
Oh do I know the feeling! That's very real. I don't like my daughter's driving hahaha. It scares me to death as she takes too many chances and drives too close to other cars. We're just very much more secure, driving ourselves. I wouldn't be afraid if she was slow down but I dare not say a thing anymore because she would just get mad. So, I don't ride with her anymore. Hahaha I know what a scary feeling that is. Bless your heart!

@LadyGrace It's that mother/child thing I'm sure!
@mossyboots Not for me. I recognize that I'm so used to being in control that I'm afraid and insecure when others drive for me. It's the unknown. I like being in control when I drive. That way I know I'm safe.

Used to be, which was sort of ironic since I was late in getting a driver's license (age 21). But as traffic has worsened and I have gotten far more conscious of my declining abilities (although I am still fully active, and driving with both legal and medical approval), I have become far more comfortable with it.
It must be something to do with loss of control.
Most definitely. I am reminded of a small plane outing we took from Christchurch to the Milford Sound in NZ. The other passengers were an airline pilot and his wife, a former stewardess. He was white-knuckle all the way. I said "you should be used to flying" and he said "when I am in control". The fact that his planes would drop like a rock if something went wrong, and what we were on could glide to safety had no effect on him.

@dancingtongue OMG I really feel for him.
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@mossyboots He actually was clutching a barf bag most of the way.
mossyboots · 51-55, F
@dancingtongue Poor man!
FrozenWasteland · 61-69, M
Most of the people i ride with are not the greatest drivers, especially if the roads are poor, so I'd much rather drive. I have a couple of friends who are good drivers, totally comfortable with them but they're the exception.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
I have driven for so many years now, I actually enjoy being a passenger when I can.
Breathed mom. 😅

I agree with you, Mossy… I’m a nervous wreck in the passenger seat.
techkb52 · 70-79, M
I guess it depends on who is driving. Some drivers make me nervous, most don't. But I am usually driving.
Strongtea · 22-25, M
Yes totally, I’m a really nervous passenger.
RedBaron · M
I use Uber instead of owning a car. It’s cheaper and I don’t have to drive.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
My wife used to complain that I was a terrible passenger. She said my frantic screaming used to put her off..😷
OriginalNedKelly · M
My wife does not drive anymore, both daughters drive they are okay -
Teslin · M
It's nice to be the passenger, but yes, I have pressed that imaginary break pedal many times.
mossyboots · 51-55, F
@Teslin I'm glad I'm not alone!
bijouxbroussard · F
I hated driving so much that I eventually stopped, but my best friend is that way. She only trusts her own driving, and fortunately she’s an excellent driver.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
Yes! I don't how other people survive long, as bad as they drive.
Banksy83 · 41-45, M
Driving should be a pleasure, but with the state of the roads in Britain thats impossible.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
I have that problem too
matthewjames · 18-21, M

matthewjames · 18-21, M
@mossyboots was it accident?
mossyboots · 51-55, F
@matthewjames No, I don't give hearts by accident.
Midlifemale · 61-69, M
Nice and funny
Ambersky · 51-55, F
I’m the opposite. I’m the passenger princess!
GohantheThird · M
Yup.
Uncfred · 61-69, M
You found my sore spot, the other is having a back seat driver (of the worst kind).
ArtieKat · M
I'm actually a reasonable passenger
Pretzel · 70-79, M
It's why I am not a fan of plane rides
mossyboots · 51-55, F
@Pretzel Me neither. They really do make me nervous, or at least have done in the past.
Pretzel · 70-79, M
@mossyboots and I won't get on a roller coaster

Is it only your son?
mossyboots · 51-55, F
@Northwest No, I'm like it with a friend of mine when we go out. I often try to drive but she likes to take turns.
Northwest · M
@mossyboots Not criticizing, but a lot of people must always be in control of situations, minor or major.
I like being a passenger princess and a backseat driver. <:
YoMomma ·
i don't mind being a passenger to a decent driver but i avoid riding with people who drive like maniacs
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
Like there ain't no happy medium passengers either back seat drivin or playing paddle ball spilling food etc.
