What occupation or job would you never want your partner involved in ?

If you’re married, you wouldn’t want them to take up this career; and if single this would be a deal-breaker as someone you’d date.

Guess it's just that....Many replies here X out those whom serve and protect as a candidate for partnership.

A life spent is the service and protection of otheres...for this country and it's values is one of selflessness.

Giving.

Sacrifice.

Devotion.

A minute in their company would suffice a life time.

For me, no job on earth would place a red flag upon the path of my interest in....them.

What we do is not who we are.

I'm in love with a man who mows grass. He finds peace there. Solace from a decade of deployment on hostel ground.

Great question Bij.

Well, he was Military Police and an OTR Truck driver while we were married and both of those would’ve been my answer. They’re both incredibly rough for a couple and family. So, perhaps working on an oil rig given how dangerous it can be.
I knew a fireman, he had serious PTSD from all the things he saw every day. First to accidents, missing limbs, finding missing children inside tossed refrigerators, stuff like that. Pretty awful stuff even if they are hero's every day.

@MisterBander Same here. A person I still know pretended he was not affected by all the horrors seen for many years before they burst out and he had a breakdown. The 'macho' culture of the fire and rescue service meant he felt he could not admit to being affected. It has not had a very happy outcome, I'm afraid to say.

Any occupation that would force them to compromise integrity and humanity. Even some of the hard ones you can go against the grain, and I’d hate to see the strain on them there, but the only deal breaker would be the one where they couldn’t. Money should never be worth that.

He was close protection security for years before he came here. If he ever did it again I wouldn't be his wife. Even when he had store work here and chased the petty thieves I'd get mad at him.
Military, both exes were. Too stressful
Truck driver. I wouldn't wish this job on anyone.

@istillhaveanameitsrick I'm a freight train driver and there are some women in the industry but most of them are married with kids or lesbian. I'd never consider my work a potential source of romantic connections. Been doing rail shiftwork for 35 yrs and in rail industry for 38

Would you believe me if I say that may be harder to explain it than to live by it?

A preacher or minister. Basically anything to do with being actively involved in religion.

I couldn't deal with the constant pushing of religion even with others.
A job where she had to travel for what seems all the blasted time.

Teaching. Senior management will exploit you. An incompetent bunch.

Children are fulfilling to work with.
@peterlee So you wouldn’t want your partner teaching or you would, because children are fulfilling to work with ?(which I agree, they can be)

@bijouxbroussard My wife and I saw each other for an hour a day during term time. We worked late into the night, preparing or administration tasks.. Our schools had different holidays.

Keep away from it. It is toxic.

We are both artists now.

A cop. I would do nothing but worry.
@HowtoDestroyAngels I understand.

Police officer, military, TSA, ICE.
RosaMarie · 46-50, F
Let me add that I would not have felt this way even 10 years ago and I hope that I don't feel this way in 10 years, but right now they are not honorable.
SwampFlower · 31-35, F

Wow. Three out of the six comments so far list military as a deal breaker. Fifty percent. 😔
Rutterman · 46-50, M
Politician, ICE agent, police officer.
@Rutterman Same. My brother was a policeman, but even he said he would never work for ICE.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@bijouxbroussard I should mention that I feel much more strongly about ICE agents than police officers and politicians. My reasons for not wanting to be with the latter two are different from those concerning people who work for ICE.

Based on what I've seen and heard, I believe anyone who signs on with ICE now is very likely a sadistic sociopath or the kind of person who will do anything for money ($50,000 signing bonus). It doesn't surprise me that your brother says he would never work for the agency.

Aside from any occupations that are illegal, one would be a "hunting guide".

A professional scammer. Like some jobs selling useless or even harmful overpriced supplements to elderly people.
