I am a writer. The most difficult task I encounter is setting aside a project to continue later. The urge to push towards completion can be overwhelming, even when knowing that a break is likely to refocus my thoughts and potentially provide improved clarity.

@HumanEarth When I start writing lyrics to a song, I can have it nearly complete and then decide to change one lyric...which leads to changing another to better the transition... and so on & on. It can be maddening but that's been something I have consistently done. I fear stopping and becoming unable to reconnect with the same feelings that inspired me to begin the song initially

Right, like designing blueprints or when I make something off the cuff. I end up scrapping the whole idea and starting from scratch again

Yes, Yes, Yes, I do. I am the very same way once I focus on something then I see it to its conclusion.

Why the difference

Hyperfocus Symptoms:
Intense concentration on tasks of interest.
Difficulty shifting attention to other tasks.
Can lead to neglect of responsibilities.
Maniacal Focus Symptoms:
Increased energy and activity levels.
Decreased need for sleep.
Possible engagement in risky behaviors or grandiose ideas.
Key Differences
Origin: Hyperfocus is often seen in ADHD and can be a coping mechanism, while maniacal focus is linked to bipolar disorder and is part of manic episodes.
Impact on Functioning: Hyperfocus can be productive in the right context, while maniacal focus may lead to negative consequences due to impulsivity and poor judgment.

@HumanEarth To be awkward - somebody's gotta do it sooner or later.
