(1) History and the passing of time - laws do not just disappear when they become irrelevant or are superseded. They require further legislation to remove them from the books. Unless they are positively harmful, the easier option is to let things be.
(2) Large legislatures (assemblies of people paid to make new laws) . . and the popular belief that any ill can be solved through legislation.

Eww ?
But still on the books in the city of Chico: It is illegal to detonate a nuclear device within city limits.
Possible penalties are a $500 fine and/or 6 mos in jail (assuming you survive the blast of course). 🤔

@rinkydinkydoink English is very widely spoken in Norway, not quite so much so in Sweden. In both countries you can find English speakers more often in the bigger towns than in the countryside. In Oslo unless you speak perfect Norwegian there is a good chance that young people will answer you in English, that happens to me occasionally still even though I have been speaking the language for over thirty five years.
Probably everyone under forty years old will speak English to some degree in Norway and of those under twenty it's probably close to a hundred percent. Norwegians consume a lot of English language media and only children's television is dubbed.
