While I believe dinosaurs existed (the proof is obvious), the vast majority of oil comes from ancient marine organisms that existed millions of years before the existence of dinosaurs.

Oil and gas are organic and contain no fossils. While they may not be as exciting as gigantic dinosaurs, tiny bacteria, plankton and algae really are the originators of oil and gas, which are natural, organic substances.
The belief likely originated from a marketing campaign by Sinclair Oil Corp., which used an Apatosaurus as its mascot.
But hey, it started a whole knew interest in Dinosaurs. 🤷🏼‍♂ 😏
