How do they put the air in the bubble wrap?

How does the air get in the bubbles, do they inject it in or what?. But if they inject the air in won’t that leave a hole in it and cause the air to escape?

My mum just got some packages so there’s a lot of bubble wrap in the house so she said I can pop it but I’m feeling a little curious.

that is a beautiful question
lemme guess...you started popping the bubble wrap and mom said stop doing that 🤔

It involves different resin beads being melted together to form a plastic sheet that is then fed onto a huge vacuum roller containing the bowl shaped indentations. As the sheet wraps over the vacuum roller it sucks the sheet into the indentations and the bubble is formed and then heat sealed.

I would think the air is already in there like air is in everything. And the machine just glues or melts the pieces of plastic together.

@Jonjdw I read this and thought about what you said and it makes sense. Kind of like how you close a ziploc bag but there’s still air in it, but then in the case of bubble wrap they melt the plastic in little bubble shapes. I think anyway.

@Jonjdw unless the bubbles were solid plastic, which they are not, it would never work.

@PersimmonBaby yes I didn’t look it up or anything but I believe it’s probably made similar to that way.

The plastic is squeezed together which traps the air already present between the layers. Some bubbles have more air than others because of this.

There is a dunnage machine that fills the bubble packs and heat seals it shut.

I'll betcha AndysAttic has the answer to this because I'm sure it has something to do with Creation Science and the Earth being flat! He is a highly exalted university professor in Skegness and he knows pert near everything!

commercial/business bubble wrap machines basically worse like a vacuum sealer in reverse (air pump fills pre-formed rolls with air and hot seals them)
