“I’m just sayin.” ~

More and more often, people are adding this line at the end of their posts, as if it somehow changes or blunts what they’re actually saying.

Is it just me, or do you think it’s an amazingly dumb and redundant expression?

If they weren’t saying something, they wouldn’t be posting, would they? 🤷‍♂️

It depends on the context. I used to say it quite often when people got angry with me for saying something.

@Matt85 As if it somehow changes or blunts the point you’re trying to make so people don’t get angry or otherwise react negatively?

That appears to be why people use it. I’m not sure how much context actually matters.

When debating informally, I take it to mean "I have no answer to your last point so I'll just ask you to reread the ones I've already made and then maybe you'll get it. And p.s. I WIN! "

Rather off-putting, as it spoils a good exchange that might've ended in agreement, with both sides wiser than before.

@gailo Excellent point.

It just seems so mindless to me, which is why I posted about it.

@RedBaron It's similar to a person's raising their voice to repeat something a non-native speaker didn't understand. TURN! RIGHT! AT! THE! LIGHT!

Yes it's like 'Not being rude but...'
One of those insults where somebody's trying to excuse the fact that's exactly what they're being.

I think it's their way of saying this is just their opinion and it can be taken or left.

However I get what you mean

@RedBaron i think the point trying too be made is there opinion does not neccessariy agree with the person who posted the question. or the comment to a question maybe slightly controversial and by putting just saying they do not wish too have there comment taken in the wrong way
