I always used to say scone as in bone. I've lived in scone as in gone territory for over 20 years and I'm inconsistent now.

@basilfawlty89 The North South divide in Ireland is quite strange
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@Lugwho I know. The Irish side said it like cone. The Scottish side was Highland and said it like gone.
Meaning I grew up having no idea how to pronounce it lol.

It's not a word I say often enough to matter.
BTW, here's a map of about 20 regional American pronunciations; unfortunately, "scone" didn't make the list.

@ElwoodBlues That’s a really interesting article.
The one exception I’d note on my example: the girl pronounces the word aunt as "annt". I pronounce it "ahnt", possibly because the word I grew up hearing was "tante", which has the "ah" sound.

Used to be a coffee shop here called Scones and Cones. I told them it should be Scones and Cons.
WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
As in bone, unless I’m telling the “what’s the fastest cake in the world” joke.
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
Sconn 8-) there is a town here called Scone pronounced like bone.
KatyO83 · 41-45, F
How do you say stone? So only one letter different that's how I think
walabby · M
Neither. Scone as in con, or maybe, conn.

One of my favorite places for baked goods was called "No Scone Unturned"(rhyming with ‘bone’, of course). The one in the OP’s photo looks like what I call a "biscuit". The scones I’ve baked look more triangular, like this:

They look yum and well baked @bijouxbroussard

It's on like a scone.
