Leaving your child at the hospital waiting for the coroner to collect his body for the autopsy

Bury your child, listening to the music his sister picked especially for him

It totally depends on the funeral, and I have been to a lot of them. One was a rock and roll funeral, as requested by the deceased. It was fun, so the sadness was later. Another was led by an uneducated country preacher who wanted everybody to be crying and hoping they wouldn't be going to hell. It was more than sad.

I was too numb to really register sadness when my husband passed it's really only now I am starting to properly process so I'd say definitely afterwards.

I quit going to funerals after my mother died in 1977. So much bullshit about being yourself forever in a perfect place where there is no pain or suffering.
