Our first TV was thrown away by my wife's grandmother. It took a few years to be able to afford to buy one.
My friends keep upgrading. I'm on my 4th free TV, I think.

Nobody gets rid of a TV if there's nothing wrong with it. That's why you never buy stuff from an auction site.

That's exactly my point. If there was nothing wrong with the TV, they wouldn't be trying to dump it in the first place. Anytime someone tries to give you a TV, there's a good reason for it and it isn't because they think you need one.
