If somebody bought a new tv then offered to give you their now old one would you take it if you liked it
Or would it feel not right getting somebodies now throw away stuff

That's exactly my point. If there was nothing wrong with the TV, they wouldn't be trying to dump it in the first place. Anytime someone tries to give you a TV, there's a good reason for it and it isn't because they think you need one.
