Whats the worst thing to say when trying to comfort or make somebody feel a little better who's going through another persons death?

SophSmiles · 22-25, F
You’ll get over it

@SophSmiles I have to say I'm on the fence with part of that. Because I had a stroke 6 weeks to the day after Vickie passed then what I can only say felt it was a miraculous 2 week full recovery. All through it I did have the feeling she was there with me. I was hospitalized for appendicitis years before and held in the hospital for a week because my blood sugar had gone out of control at the same time. I am a know type 2 diabetic. She wouldn't take the car and go home and stayed there with me the whole time. I had that feeling of her presence those 2 weeks until I came home to a lonely house and the feeling left me.

@Gibbon that’s nice for you and everything, but I’m an atheist so it brings me no comfort or reassurance and actually minimises the loss. To me I have lost someone I will never see or hear again, telling me I will and it’s not forever is just dismissive of what I’m feeling

@SophSmiles Regardless my reply I have that same feeling also now. I have some thoughts I don't express to avoid conflicts.
