@SW-User It used to have more of a friendly feeling in the residential areas, and less of a stand-offish vibe. There were more actual "neighborhoods". There's less of that feeling now.

In western Canada, how prevalent is the French language? I was under the notion that western Canada was almost exclusively English?

@SW-User Western Canada is very ethnically and linguistically diverse. Some of the kids in my class didn't learn English until they started grade one. French, German, Russian, Ukrainian Chinese etc. I would hear those languages being spoken in the coffee shop and stores in town. My grandparents spoke Welsh at home. My great grandparents spoke German and Russian and Cree.
