The Comment:
On April 3, 1976, while running for president, Carter stated in an interview that he supported the rights of community members to maintain the "ethnic purity" of their neighborhoods.
The Apology:
The remark drew immediate backlash from civil rights advocates and political opponents. Five days later, Carter publicly apologized for using the phrase.

He apologized for using the phrases "ethnic purity", "black intrusion", and "alien groups". He said the words were inappropriate .
Then he kinda pussied out further when he said that he was only referring to the federal government imposing certain groups on neighborhoods.
Notice tho how in terms of neighborhoods, how current are the terms , black intrusion, (now Hispanic and Muslim), and alien groups.
And of course, ethnic purity. Which today is blatantly and in the open, white supremacy.
Isn't that creepy how the same arguments keep popping up.
I find it amazing. And it supremely underscores the sentiment of... Those who don't know their history are doomed to repeat it.

@AlexC intrigued, could you therefore explain how it is that Thames Water and many other companies running utilities privatised by Thatcher, require bailout by the taxpayer (but when times are good, give their profits to their shareholders)?
Or indeed the bankers, who were bailed out with Government money? Thatcher's legacy is one where 'other people's money' goes overseas when the times are good, but when they're not good, then it's back to State subsidy.

I guess if you wanted you can spend a few minutes and learn about how many "socialist" moves Reagan made during is Presidency. Because there were quite a few. And not just for the poor. His brand of socialism was more focused the wealthy. About $3 TRILLION was transferred to the wealthy via his "socialist" policies. Until Trump, he was easily the most destructive President for the middle class we've ever had. And a lot of that was due to his "socialist" decisions. He just ignored the part about equanimity and fairness.

I'm sure you do understand that this quote refers to social safety nets that the government pays for, like medical subsidy, and other social programs the you yourself probably enjoy.

This from the genius who gave us trickle down economics, broke numerous Federal laws, brought an astrologer into the White House to advise on running the country, and publicly admitted he was guilty of various crimes because he'd seen the proof but his mind was so far gone he couldn't remember actually committing those crimes.
