Are you teachable..

Wisdom isn't merely knowledge/understanding and applying it. Having an answer or opinion for everything.
True wisdom acknowledges it doesn't always know and is openly teachable. It can say "I don't know".
Punxi · 26-30, F
Beautiful. Best lesson I've found and one I struggle with in practice each day is to listen well. To shut my mind off, to stop formulating a response...to just hear what is being said.
Lilnonames · F
@Punxi did u just say something🤭
Magenta · F
@Punxi You know, I already see you as a wise young woman. And you have such a grace about you. 💕
Reject · 26-30, M
Everyone is willing to admit this until you confront them on the hill they’ve chosen to die on.
Magenta · F
@Lilnonames 😘 I love learning.
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
@Reject all men are equal after 3 days with out water
Magenta · F
@JohnnySpot Indeed. Humans are brought down to the most base level of what we truly are, when we suffer to that degree.
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
I love this. I don’t know everything, and I love to learn and discuss and open my mind to new possibilities and ideas. I don’t always agree, but I try to be willing to listen. There are some areas, however, where my mind is made up, and I can be stubborn.
Magenta · F
@ChampagneOnIce I know this is true of you. Relatable too. 😊
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
@Magenta Merci mon amie 😊💖
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
@ChampagneOnIce knowing your interest in words I'd like to say, 'Flexible"
LadyGrace · 70-79
Yes. I believe in being teachable. We never know it all and everyone has something they can contribute. It's the only way we can learn and grow.
CestManan · 46-50, F
I am not teachable my brain is filled to capacity
Magenta · F
@CestManan Ugh, if you figure out how to forget, please let me know.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@Magenta I wish I knew but the way the brain works is we only forget things like where we put our car keys, silly things like that
Magenta · F
@CestManan IKR! Not the things we want to forget.
Suppose I am. I have a fairly wide range of interests, skills, and knowledge, mostly learned informally from others or self-taught, aside from my formal education. Learning should be a life-long process in my view, so I generally look forward to opportunities for new experiences.
Magenta · F
@Stillwaiting Aw that's great. In that sense, I understand.
Guess I was thinking more about opinions and think so's. Some are just know it all's. Lol!
@Magenta I wasn't excluding those things. I observed and learned about things like work ethic helping my grandparent's on their farms, for example. Later, I learned to try and understand different perspectives from college classmates and coworkers from different backgrounds, countries and cultures. Parents, pastors and others influenced the formation of my values in my youth. Sure, my own life experiences and lessons learned took over as the driving force in forming my thinking and opinions as I grew older and more experienced, but I had strong early influences too.
Magenta · F
@Stillwaiting Sounds like you had a good foundation early on.
JustNik · 51-55, F
I saw something somewhere… “Everyone you meet knows something you don’t.” One of the greatest truths ever, I thought. Knowledge and wisdom take innumerable forms and there is no way any one person can carry them all, so we share the load. Even if you don’t have a particular need for or interest in a piece someone else is carrying in that moment, you can respect them for carrying it. It’ll keep you humble, too. lol 😄
Magenta · F
@JustNik See that's smart right there. I always hang on your words, the articulate way you express is so interesting and wise. 😊
JustNik · 51-55, F
@Magenta thank you 😊
4meAndyou · F
Wisdom comes when we are blessed with a good brain, and we know how to use it, because we've been taught how to really THINK and examine new ideas from all sides.

Wisdom comes when we can float up above a new idea, and see its past and its future and try to decide if the future is good for our survival.

Wisdom also comes from experience, from an awesome non-biased education, and from sincere prayer.
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
"There's always room for a new idea..."

Not all new ideas are good.

Wisdom consists in having enough sense to accept new ideas if they are good, and to reject them if they are nonsensical or positively bad.
Magenta · F
@JohnnySpot I have no idea. 😁
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@JohnnySpot

Defund the police, of course, except for the important bigwigs.
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
@Thinkerbell
He had stopped thinking about the way things should be.
Ferric67 · M
I believe, on some level that our purpose of having a life is getting a human experience and getting the opportunity to live, learn and grow.
You need to be teachable to learn and grow.
Magenta · F
@Ferric67 Lovely. Growth only comes by being teachable.
RebelFox · 36-40, F
Absolutely. I listen more than I talk. And often throw my thoughts out there for feedback. I meet everyone without expectations and collect perspectives. Never afraid to admit when I’m wrong, or have been too emotional 🖤
Carissimi · F
To a certain point. Being older I’m more set in my ways, but I also know my knowledge of life and the world is only a small part of what’s out there. However, I’m not sure I’m interested in learning the half of it.
Carissimi · F
Exactly. If you don’t use it, you tend to lose it. My son has taught me some things about my car. Problem is by the time I need to use that knowledge, a long Time has passed, and then I can’t remember what he told me.

We usually remember stuff when we learnt it young. I remember the name of the horse of Alexander the Great; Bucephalus, and that knowledge has not helped me at all in my life, but I’ve never forgotten. Just more useless info we retain from elementary school. @Stereoguy

Carissimi · F
I’d do it because that’s a fascinating topic. @Stereoguy
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
Most definitely. Sometimes I can solve complex problems and then have something simple escape my ability. It's bemusing.
Magenta · F
@ravenwind43 Ha! Hey you.
How goes it?
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@Magenta I'm doing okay, just keeping busy. Hope you are well:)
Freeranger · M
My criteria would begin with the qualifications of the "teacher." Following that.....I like to keep the words of King Solomon close. After all he'd surveyed including vast wealth and possessions, he looked at it all and called it a...."chasing after the wind."

Today, success seems to be measured in terms of wealth, possessions, notoriety, and career. I'm lucid enough to understand the idea behind having enough to live on, but I refuse to subscribe to anyone who doesn't possess the intelligence of a Solomon.
Seek wisdom first.
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
The things of which Johnny Spot knows nothing are immeasurable.
Magenta · F
@JohnnySpot Ha. Love it.
Spumoni · 46-50, M
I saved this to refer back to during my struggles.

Inspiration.
Magenta · F
@Spumoni Aw, oh I'm so glad if it inspired you. 🤗
SW-User
Oh you know me 😏. Always up for a new lesson 😌
Unlearn · 41-45, M
By the right person? Sure...
Funlov · M
If you don’t learn one thing a day, no matter who teaches you man woman younger person older person the day wasn’t a waste because you just learn something that you didn’t know so today was a good day my father always told me that
GJOFJ3 · 61-69, M
This is excellent
SW-User
- It's also admitting every stance you are fallible, where you were wrong, and that's probably the only part of ego I can truly respect, where they can admit how deeply they were wrong.
Magenta · F
@SW-User Indeed. Takes courage and self awareness.
Thank you. 😊

Pfuzylogic · M
I like the way that the Bible characterized wisdom as a person named Sophia In Proverbs 8.
Magenta · F
@Pfuzylogic Oh, I shall read that.
Pfuzylogic · M
@Magenta
Verses 22-31 , divinely poetic!
Magenta · F
@Pfuzylogic Thanks!
Slade · 56-60, M
Wisdom is so much rarer than intelligence (go to any college campus for proof)

I'd like to think I have a good deal of both. But I value my wisdom a million times more
Magenta · F
@Slade It's rare. I see it as more of a gift, and not something anyone can just learn to be. Knowledge is everywhere, but not wisdom is a different color.
HeavenBesideYou · 56-60, F
So true 💗
I find when im intrested in something i dont know about, is the easiest way for me to teach myself something new.
Magenta · F
@checkoutanytime Good attitude.
ReneeT · 61-69, M
No matter who you are there is always room to learn something that you did not know. I keep searching all the time to find something I did not know about.
Convivial · 26-30, F
Not sure you can teach me ideas... Just techniques to maybe help generate them...i think it's one of those intrinsic traits that people either have or not
Hi, M! A lifetime is not enough for learning. The world is full of so much! I learn daily. Love to you too. :)
Magenta · F
@PoetryNEmotion Hi Poe! Love returned plus a 😘.
Ontheroad · M
The only thing I know with 100% surety is that I know so little. Someone somewhere invariably teaches me something almost daily.
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
Yeah.

I get too cranky and set in my ways as I age.
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
@Magenta

Somebody at work asked me to do something today and instead of saying yes I hemmed and hawed until he said do not worry about it.

But inside I was so pissed off. I still have not calmed down.

Lately I have been doing a lot of other people's work for them, and decided enough is enough. Also, he was asking me to sub for a coworker and give his presentation at a conference. Yet I do not know the topic, would have only two days to prepare, and do not even know the coworker well. I was terrified.
Magenta · F
@JoyfulSilence Aw, well people tend to take advantage of willing helpful people. I'm glad you didn't do it.
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
@Magenta

One complication is I am in the middle of applying for a new position where I would work for him. He is my boss' boss. I hope I haven't scuttled it.
I know what I’ll do if my work gets redundant….change is a vital part of learning. 🤗💙
Magenta · F
@Vivaci Ooh smart, V! 🤗💕
Classified · M
Part of it is also knowing what not to listen to. 😬
Magenta · F
@Classified Oh there's a lot that gets discarded.
Classified · M
@Magenta Probably the most. 😅

SweetMae · 70-79, F
This is so true. No one has all the answers. Especially those that think they do.
Magenta · F
@SweetMae Yes. When someone seems to have all the answers, I stop listening.
Are in any sentence/title is seen followed by (?).
Just following the gist of post.
Magenta · F
@Lyfis2live Mostly yes, I don't use it sometimes as my words are more of a statement.
CCMorgan · 51-55, M
Wise words, indeed ☮️

There's something to be said for truly listening...
Magenta · F
@CCMorgan Truly. It's hard to do as our minds are always so busy.
SW-User
Most people are so closed-minded. Especially if they’re into politics.
Magenta · F
@SW-User Usually the ones who say they are open minded.
I Try to learn something new every day....
CestManan · 46-50, F
@Experienced33 I try to get Dumber every day
Magenta · F
@Experienced33 It isn't something I just strive for, not actively, but I am open to it and if it's a subject I'm interested in (like forensic science) or if I need to research something on chickens or any number of things, then yes!
SW-User
Always up for a good lesson in something or another 😀
What have you got in mind 😏
WillaKissing · 56-60
Fantastic post, and yes, I am teachable.
Magenta · F
@WillaKissing Thank you. I believe that.
WillaKissing · 56-60
@Magenta I have learned that life in and of itself is a massive learning curve!
erosme · 46-50, M
Thank you my dear lady for sharing it! Am always open to be teached
Magenta · F
@erosme Always my pleasure.
FoolishLuna · 56-60, F
I find time and life experiences to be just that.
Magenta · F
@FoolishLuna There's one of those kick ass women. 🥰
