Is it weird for an American to miss the Queen?

Elizabeth II was queen for four whole decades of my life. I'm not a royalist, and I'm not a huge Anglophile, but she was just always there and I miss her.

Presidents came and went, she was there. In a pastel suit and matching hat primly smiling. From my first day of kindergarten to my last day of college, she was there. From the series premiere of "Cheers" to the series finale of "Frasier," she was there.

More than that, she was just 7 years younger than my grandmother and as long as she was on that throne, a bit of my grandmothers generation was still alive. The Queen is gone and it's like that entire chunk of history is gone too.

Now Chucky III and Cams are there and honestly I could take or leave them.

I am a bit of an Anglophile since my ancestry is mostly English. I love British history, so maybe that's why I miss the queen.

@Nimbus 🤔never mind nimby when the best team in manchester walk away with the fa cup on saturday at least the worst team in manchester will have no distractions of european football too interfere in next season of winning nothing again lol😆
Actually, I think that's exactly why the British monachy appeals to some Americans so much.

You know that your going to have a new President after 2 terms at most - because that's what the law says. We had Prime Ministers come and go throughout the late Queens reign... but she was always there as a constant.

In fairness to King Charles, though, he has spent 74 years training to do this job... Can you imagine taking on a new job after most people have retired, knowing that 4 nations rely on you - and the world has it's eyes on you???

You promised to serve your people for the remainder of your life... Then you go and get cancer.

The King hasn't had an easy time himself over the last couple of years.

I remember going to school and above the blackboard behind the teacher hung a portrait of the Queen. I remember going to movies and not being able to leave until after we all sang God Save the Queen after the movie finished. Of course we also sang God Save the Queen after school every day. I came to not like the Queen and all she stood for even after I carried her commission as an officer in Her Majesty's Canadian Armed Forces.

Well, unfortunately, gone is gone, and you'll have to find another anchor of stability and respectability in this savage jungle of a world. I suggest that it not be a frail, or mortal, human being.
