Is it weird for an American to miss the Queen?

Elizabeth II was queen for four whole decades of my life. I'm not a royalist, and I'm not a huge Anglophile, but she was just always there and I miss her.

Presidents came and went, she was there. In a pastel suit and matching hat primly smiling. From my first day of kindergarten to my last day of college, she was there. From the series premiere of "Cheers" to the series finale of "Frasier," she was there.

More than that, she was just 7 years younger than my grandmother and as long as she was on that throne, a bit of my grandmothers generation was still alive. The Queen is gone and it's like that entire chunk of history is gone too.

Now Chucky III and Cams are there and honestly I could take or leave them.

I remember going to school and above the blackboard behind the teacher hung a portrait of the Queen. I remember going to movies and not being able to leave until after we all sang God Save the Queen after the movie finished. Of course we also sang God Save the Queen after school every day. I came to not like the Queen and all she stood for even after I carried her commission as an officer in Her Majesty's Canadian Armed Forces.
