As a distant cousin of King Charles, I doubt if it will disappear, but I think the role of the king will change during his reign and change even more under King William. That's the opinion of an American whose last English ancestor left the home country 300 years aggo.

It should have been either abolished or downsized to a more Scandinavian style when Elizabeth died. But too many people in the UK love the class system.
